hello and welcome. I am severe hard of hearing since birth, but I don't know ASL. I was taught in mainstreamed public schools without an interpreter.. another word, my mom wanted me to be more oralist.

I was born deaf from the German Measles, I spent my teen years in the mainstreamed schools. I was the center of the wars between the oralist vs. sign-language. I know some of the ASL but lost most due to lack of the deaf friends and my growing up moving around so much.
I know what you mean about the school systems in the past. They stinks! Nowadays it is very acceptable in schools.
Hope we can talk some more!

I know what you mean... I was mainstreamed from preschool - 12th grade. It was very tiring and overwhelming to keep up. I am glad they are more acceptable and I wish I had the full toolbox method growing up. It would have been better for me as it was for most deaf people.
