This may sound really incompetent of me, but this is our first year in homeschooling (Officially since Sept, 07) and we do Bible, Art, Math, Reading & Writing, Language Arts, Culture, Spanish, History & Social Studies, Phys Ed and Health, Home Ec, Computer Class, and My husb. does Industrial Arts (Shop) and we also do Science. Now I need to know what exactly Does the term Lapbook and Lapbooking mean?

What is it?
How do you do it?
What class does it fall under?
How do you implement it to your studies, etc?

Thank you,

Nannette (a.k.a. LupusMommyto5)

This should help some. This is a thread just about lapbooking. I've never done it either, so for those of you who have would you mind posting pictures of what your lapbooks look like.

Okay New World, I checked out the thread, read how some use them in addition to unit studies........However, that still really doesn't explain all my questions about them, I want details, are they used primarily for say History or Reading, can they be used in any class, how do you exactly make them, what should you put in them, after made how are they used as a reference, are they considered a project, how are they graded?

Remember I am a fairly new homeschool mother of 4 so even we (dh and I) with college educations are finding we are still learning as educators as times are different from even 20 years ago.

So, I am afraid even though the link was helpful, I still don't get understand completely.

Right now the teacher needs to be taught. I promise to raise my hand and be good. (Sorry---couldn't resist.)

Lapbooking can be used for ANY subject. I know of people who use them for math and spelling and language arts. Even Science and History..

Essentially you do activities for the topic. And then you add them into the lapbook. Generally the activities are small. We use lapbook items and put them in a type of scrapbook. The folders are just too big for me.

If you download the free lapbook you will see activities in the back.

My kids love the hands on. And this is a good way to get artsy type stuff in while learning

This site has ideas on what you can do

Thank you for the link Wife. I will be sure to check it out. Thank you also for clarification that you can use them for any class. That is giving me some ideas for some of our classes.

I wonder if you can submit them in the National Art Contests?

your welcome. When I first heard of lapboks, I was thrilled. I love to scrapbook and so do my kids so this is perfect for us. The math one was strange for me, but when I saw one it made sense.

Have fun. I think my favorite part of homeschooling is the research..LOL

I would be happy to post a pic of some lapbooks we've done.. But how do i do that? I have photobucket.. would i put them there first and then how would i put them here???

Edited to add: LupusMom if you see pics it might help you get a visual on it... It did me; i was really confused about it before i saw one. And they can be used on all subjects.. I've used them mostly for history myself; but have a few math ones..

As soon as someone can direct me on how to do this; i will add pics for ya! :)
