Get Kids Vaccinated Or Else, Parents Told
Pr. George's Threatens Legal Action

By Nelson Hernandez

The parents of more than 2,300 Prince George's County students who failed to get needed vaccinations could face fines of $50 a day and up to 10 days in jail if their children do not meet the state's immunization requirements, county officials said yesterday.

The threat of legal action is a last resort after months in which Prince George's has struggled to get its 131,000 students immunized for chicken pox and hepatitis B, as mandated by the state. More than 2,300 students have not been immunized and have been barred from attending schools, almost two months after a Sept. 20 deadline for meeting the requirement.

Now the state/Fed govt can tell me how to direct the medical care of my children?
Next they will start regulating what values are acceptable teachings and violation of those guidlines will be encourged to be reported by the children as "emotional or phychological abuse". Lord help us all.

I am blessed to be able to homeschool my children. Now, I realize that not everyone is able to do it, but I am convinced that this is becoming the only way to keep the government out of the business of raising our children - and probably out of our children's health. (I'm not getting into the vaccination debate - but I do see this as a precursor for tougher issues).

While I don't agree with these silly punishments, I don't understand why in the world someone wouldn't get thier child immunized? WHAT IF one of those horrible viruses surfaced again someday? Wouldnt you want your child safe from it? I'm not trying to be mean at all, just don't understand really. :idunno

I thought kids could still go to school without vaccinations if their parents signed some sort of consent form that based their decision of religious reasons? Is this not the case in each state?

Chicken Pox? Its still around....it isn't some "horrible" disease. Its not fun....but its not horrible. There are alot of reasons why some people choose not to immunize....religious being one of them.

I will also refrain from the vaccination debate (to do or not to do). Suffice it to say that I've done enough research to know that they are dangerous and not in the best interest of my children.

There are waivers available that parents can sign to get around the requirements.

I take issue with the state and ferderal government dictating what is appropriate medical protocal for my child. This has served as an open door for many other legislative statues that further encroach upon parents rights to raise their children as they see fit. I call it "scope creep".

Thank God for his protection and favor in my family's life. It is all I can rely on as the goverment continues to trample all over family values, and our God given liberties.

Chicken pox is not a public health threat it is a school attendance threat. Hep B is a blood born pathogen difficult to acquire.

Public health like child welfare systems often work outside the law.

If your child was given the MMR vaccine from Meryk prior to about two years ago did you know they were vaccinated with a vaccine developed using an aborted child's cells. I didn't know either as it was just about two yeas ago that Meryk announced they would offer and alternative to the fetal line. Prior to that no one knew.

Does MMR vaccine contain fetal or embryonic tissue? If so, what kind?
The rubella vaccine virus is cultured in human cell-line cultures, and some of these cell lines originated from aborted fetal tissue, obtained from legal abortions in the 1960's. No new fetal tissue is needed to produce cell lines to make these vaccines, now or in the future. Fetal tissue is not used to produce vaccines; cell lines generated from a single fetal tissue source are used; vaccine manufacturers obtain human cell lines from FDA-certified cell banks. After processing, very little, if any, of that tissue remains in the vaccine. NCIRD Human Cell Cultures webpage and Summary of Vaccine Contents (2/27/03)

Bingo! My kids are vaccinated with the usual, but my son had one of his shots a few days before one of his birthdays...this made his record incomplete with the school, although up to date with the doctor. So if Mumps Measels, or Ruebella is detected in his school, he'll be sent home...Okay by me! I don't want him around those diseases anyway!

I may be signing the same paperwork for my daughter if they push the other new vaccines...I simply don't believe we need to be vaccinating children for every know disease out there. Some diseases are better off happening naturally for healthy people...chicken pox is the main one that comes to mind. It's a bother, and makes the kids miserable, but they won't ever get it again...unlike my neice & others who got the pox more than once after vaccination.

Vaccinations only work if everyone gets vaccinated.

You may not be afraid of chicken pox, but what about polio? Is it okay to contract polio instead of getting the vaccination?

Do you pick and chose what vaccinations your kid gets?

I wish I had that option
