I ask cause I have been for..well pretty much since I was about 10, and whenever I try to get out and work out I end up doing it for one day and stopping for like months. Is there anything that motivates you or something like that? In turn it's really making me depressed to the point that I don't really ever leave the house anymore..

I know this is only for the men. My apologies for straying.

I am there myself at the moment. My left knee really inflamed with arthritis and I can barely move so I've put on weight (not that I wasn't overweight before) and now I feel terrible (can only fit into my biggest clothes). I've had the bad knee for many months I thought it would jsut go away in time but it just got worse and worse until I could barely put weight on it (finally got drugs for it from the doctor).

Anyway I'm a big believer of putting everything before God in prayer. So I finally got desparate enough to really pray earnestly for my knee and my weight. First may I say my weight has stabilised. That is a good thing. Now I have to start taking advantage of my knee which is starting to get better and get walking (I have to be careful I strained a ligament). So it will take time but I hvae hope. Concentrating on what I put in my mouth and walking as much as I can.

Water is a great thing. Keep it with you every where you go and make sure you drink some of it before you indulge in any other kind of liquid. Also my granfather always said have a whole glass of water half hour before you eat and you will eat less. That is my only advice.

Prayer has helped me over the years in this area. Really putting it before God and asking for Him to help you in every aspect of the problem. It could be your health, a problem with your thyroid, emotional (my brother eats from depression), lack of exercise, just habitual. Ask the Lord He will help even bring information or people across your path to help you find the underlying reason for your weight issues. I would have been obese now if God hadn't helped me earlier. I will never be my ideal weight but I am happy to be sligthly overweight and healthy. Maybe going for stabilising your weight and just a small amount of weight loss should be your goal it is reachable. When you are able to maintain that go for a little more weight loss. That is what I did, until my knee went on me.

I pray that the Lord will help you greatly in this. I pray that it will alos be a long lasting change in your life so you never have to yo yo in your weight again. Amen

I have had problems, with weightloss my whole life. Sometimes I know it can be related to abuse problems when young. I know it is for me. I think abuse makes you feel ugly and we eat because food becomes are only friend. I'm 57 now so I gave up trying, but it sure is embarrassing.

Just a bit of advice. Start eating green vegetables. Then start cutting back your portions eating less is much more effective than exercise in loosing weight. By all means you need to exercise but if you want those LBS push away from the table early and eat healthy while you are eating. Your body does not have to have huge calorie intake to sustain itself. And protiens such as steaks take a while for the body to process. Give it a try.

Matt, there are many attractive heavy people.
I think cleanliness is a big factor esp. in larger people.
Take a shower daily, put on some cologne and dress neatly and get out! and smile!

There are many handsome heavy men out there.:thumb

I'm dealing with this at the moment too. I've gained 50 lbs since the first of the year. But I also quit smoking 5 months ago. Cardiologist thought my weight gain was due to sleep apnea. She was partially right, I've since had two sleep studies now I have a machine I sleep with. I don't think it's done much good though.

Anyways, weight watchers worked really well the first few weeks of this year when i actually did it. I lost about 24 lbs in 3 weeks just by counting my points. it was incredible. I hated the meetings for the most part but you can go online or to one of their centers to get the points book to help you figure out how many points ALOT of foods are. Can get expensive going to the meetings weekly, so now that I have the material, i have people who will hold me accountable so i don't need to pay $12/wk or $40/month....I just need the discipline to get back on it and stay on it. Oh and now I'm pre-diabetic too with high blood pressure. I'm only 30 and I don't want to have to take 4 or 5 pills a day for the rest of my life, however long that might be this side of heaven. So let's pray one for another and we can all get through this together and make the worl a little bit lighter place for everyone! :thumb

Yep getting on top of your weight for health needs to be a life time thing. I have had to do that this last 16 years (I'm in my mid forties now). The problem is as you get older you do naturally gain weight anyway. :madgrin

You will cycle. That is be able to stay on a diet for a good amount of time and then you will fall off the wagon. The trick is to recognise that you have and get back to those good eating habits asap. You need to eat nutritional food a your body craves to be fed with foods that sustain it. Junk food high in fats and sugars can be devoid of the nutrition you need so you keep on eating more. :doh

Eat breakfast it kicks starts you meatbolism and it means you already have something in your system to sustain you until lunch (or mid morning snack). I hate having breakfast but I eat a piece of fruit or toast or handful of nuts. My hubby eats all his salad before getting stuck into the meat protion on his plate and I have started to do the same. I find having all my salad or vegetables I am not looking for that dessert afterwards. Get into fresh vegetable juices if you don't eat much in the way of vegetables (no fruit because it is high in sugar) it provides your body with the nutrition it craves.

Don't stock up on junk food and keep it in the house. Try limiting your junk food snacks. If you go off all snack food then you crack after a while and binge. Allow yourself limited stuff you can indulge in and try to making your own because it takes time (you have to wait for it) and has less fat & sugar then the commercial stuff. I make my own cakes and biscuits and make my own popcorn at home. I drink soda water and cordial because I can use only a little bit. When I go out I treat myself to soft drink or cappuccino with real sugar. :popcorn

The point is you need to watch what you eat but not deny yourself so much you can't stand it. It has to be a permanent change in your eating and one you can live with. I still have the occasional hot chips (ie is fries) but I don't have anything else deep fried and that works for me. Feed yourself nutritionally and you will greatly curb the need to eat foods that you shouldn't. :nod

I will never be thin because my family genes won't allow me to be, however I don't need to be obese. I'm hoping once my knee settles down I can walk again and drop the 5 kg I've put on. That will put me in the middle of the overweight range for my height. :)

Also I pray and ask God to help me in this area. God is interested in all aspects of our lives, don't forget to pray.

John 16:24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. :yay
