Does anyone have any tips, tricks, or links to sites that help when trying to memorize bible verses?

We use My ABC Bible Verses by Susan Hunt. They have a little story for each verse to help explain it's meaning to children. We do one of these verses a month, repeating it every day after we pledge to the flag. After doing it every day for a month they have it memorized. I think taking that much time with each verse really helps them sink into their long-term memory. We started last school year and are up to "K" now.

We also use the CD "Hide 'em In Your Heart" in the car. :thumb

Is there a link to her website, does she have one? Or is this like a program/book? I don't know who Susan Hunt is.

Thanks,

Yes! You can order a DVD from Sonlight Curriculum. It is scripture set to music. My kids love it and it really sticks with them.
Good luck!

I can vouch for this book!! Someone in the RR forum suggested it to me quite a while ago (it may have even been lisaann...I can't remember!) Anyway, I read it to my 6 year old and 4 year old. They are doing great at memorizing these verses and I love how the stories help them to truly understand what the verses mean. In fact, it really cracked me up one night because the new verse they had learned was "Keep your tongue from evil". Anyway, I overheard my 6 year old say something to my 4 year old in kind of a mean way and the 4 year old immediately piped up "Lindsey! Remember Keep Your Tongue From Evil!!!" .....so it must be sticking with them at least some of the time!:thumb

KJV is more easily memorized than other versions, due to its rhythm and meter

some friends of ours in the past did well with bible memory verses on CD that were in song format. Their kids learnt them a lot faster...!

My mom used to find ways to put memory verses to mind visually. We learnt the fruit of the Spirit with construction paper that was cut out in shapes like fruit with each one printed neatly on one in permanent marker. She put them up on the wall in the dining area of one of the homes we lived in with tape.

I think we did something similar with the "Armor" also.

For bigger memory verses, she placed them in areas we would look often on eye level, printed on computer paper... One place was in the restroom right across from the John... seems kind of :scratch/:twitch but to be honest, it helped.

We had one at some point near the door... I have been mulling over doing something similar with some verses for some time... Maybe making photographs that apply somehow visually to a verse, digitally enhance with the verse and have it printed in a size and framed for a time in a strategic place, and move once I have it memorized.

Programs such as Awanas and Patch the Pirate seem to go rather heavy on Scripture Memorization, maybe check out forums or sites that talk about the methods they use, and see if that helps also.

Hearing memory verses, to me helps a lot. Having them on CD and played between music or other things I do, it seems to stick out more...
