Does anyone know what the ECT power button is on the dashboard. I notice a smoother ride when it's on.

What are the pro's and con's of having it on verses off?

What are the pro's and con's of having it on verses off?It raises the shift point of the transmission.

The tranny will hold in each gear longer, till a higher RPM is reached before upshifting.

In a race situation, or where you wanted to get maximum accelleration like entering a highway off of an on-ramp, it should help.

It allows the motor to rev up into a higher RPM where there would be more power and torgue available, before shifting.

It would be less economical, MPG wise.

Is it good to leave the button pushed in all the time, so that it's on?

You're funny.
This is about a button in my truck
called ECT PWR. I noticed that
when it's my truck drives different.
I just needed more clarity on it's purpose.

It probably enables the "towing mode" in your transmission. It raises your shift points to a higher rpm to get the most out of your engines power band, but in most trucks I've had it also disables your overdrive.

I would say that it depends on your driving style, or how you use your right foot.

In general, the quicker you can get into a higher gear and thus a lower engine rpm, the better your mpg.

As Scout said too, this ECT would be good if you were pulling a load, as it would allow the engine to operate in a power band that has more torque available so the motor will work easier.

I used to drive a great deal at an old job I held. I would do stuff like drive a week and record my MPG, and then drive another week and do the same except with 2 lbs more air pressure in my tires, or with the windows open vs air conditioning on.

Why don't you try that. Drive a couple weeks and record the MPG you are getting with the ECT off, then try it again with the ECT on, and let us know which is more economical for you.

I would go with the better MPG.

You would be disqualified from a jury. There's no emotion in this process. You are probably like me and drive your wife crazy with factual stuff.

On the other hand, you could probably get a job as a NASCAR crew chief.

HAHAHAHA, yeah, that is why she left us years ago... I drove her crazy!! :lol2

Also, I have appeared for jury duty and DID get disqualified!!

I don't really like Nascar though.

Pretty good on the other stuff. :thumb hehehe
