1 Kings 19:11-13

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

I know that God can't be put in a box and he doesn't deal with everyone the same way, but.

What are your thoughts, experiences on tone, volume, etc of the still small voice. :)

Nothing audible with ears, no. The prompting to my spirit has been unmistakable on a number of occasions. Often to 'stop and be silent', when I desired to speak. At other times it is a prompting to reach out for encouragement and comfort to another believer. Its probably easier to describe the circumstances, then it is the delivery of the prompting. It sometimes takes me to inquire at the moment when I need to, and the answer for me is just there.

I remember praying fervently for a situation when I had a thought come to my mind that "it is done", what I was praying for. And, it was! I felt an awesome peace.

That's funny:lol2 yet so TRUE!!

For me it has never been an audible voice, but a prompting. Sometimes it has been soft and gentle, other times it has been quite forceful. Praise God for His faithfulness!:yeah

The whole point of the Elijah example, was that he didn't hear God speaking until he was no longer occupied by all the noise and ruckus going on.

Most of the time, we don't hear God because there is so much other traffic that we are engaged in, whether it be mental activity or something outside of ourselves that is holding our attention.

That's the whole "Be still and know that I am God" point. This doesn't necessarily mean that we can't be engaged in something, but it has to do with what you are tuning in to. God can speak to us at any moment if we are listening.

The moments I hear God so clearly are when I relax and let go of other things. That's probably because of my hard-focus in dealing with things. We are all different.

Tell you what - it might be 'small' and it might be 'still', but when He needs to- He can shout louder than a runaway freight train.

I've known times when it is as small and still as "Go into Target before you go to lunch".. and it turns out the DIL of the girl I was going with was in there...and we needed to talk- I sure didn't know.

Then we have the raging jackhammer of 'call eddy'- call eddy - CALL EDDY!!!!!!
Eddy being the guy who told me that my wife was being mistreated at her work - she hadn't told me because we needed the money. 2 days later I asked her to be an obedient wife (actually I told her it was her chance to be one :) ) and to go in a quit immediately... and she did and God has been Wonderful in the situation.

I suppose it all depends on what we need at the time. :thumb
