Do you have any recipes that are delicious and something out of the ordinary to share?

Like for example: When I was little my mother used to put applesauce in sauerkraught. (sp). I hate it but I've made different recipes with ingredients that made it taste fantastic but you'd never find it in a cookbook.

Even if you do not have a recipe to share, can you share a story about weird recipes? I think this might be fun :)

I'm going to have to think about that one Rach! Love the title :aha This isn't a recipe, but when I was a kid my mom wouldn't let me get up from the table until I had eaten my carrots (whenever she made them- usually with boiled ham). I HATED carrots! I discovered I didn't hate mustard though, and it was a pretty strong taste so I covered my carrots in mustard!! :twitch It's the only way they were going down! :aha

My daughter and youngest son put bbq potato chips on their sandwhiches. I knew they both do this, but neither of them knew that the other one does it. A couple of weeks ago, we were eating lunch together and they both started putting the potato chips on their sandwhiches. It was a funny moment when they noticed they were both doing this. They both say all their friends think they're weird and they each thought they were the only person in the world who does it. :lol2

That is a really cute story.

What about pancakes? My one grandson had a problem with constipation so I began putting flax seed in his pancakes. He never noticed and his constipation disappeared.

What about chocolate covered locusts or ants? Ever hear of those recipes? I know I've heard of people who eat them. Didn't John the Baptist eat locusts? Wonder what they taste like?

chicken?

Christine, well it must've been good because John grew up on locusts ...maybe he lathered them with that honey? Everyone says everything tastes like chicken even snakes and such. ew. I bet they even say monkey brains tastes like chicken too!

Speaking of monkey brains, when I was a kid, my Dad was cooking breakfast one morning. Afterwe ate, he informed us that the scrambled eggs were cooked with pig brains in them. My Dad loved to joke with us and I thought that's what he was doing.Years later my husband and I were at a restaurant in Tennessee and one item on the menu was scrambled eggs a with pig brains. :suprised :puke

EWWWWWWW. That would turn a kid off for certain.

:lol That reminds me of when my brother (younger bro) was a little boy, he was so senitive about animals and didn't want to eat any. SO we told him that there were chickens and turkeys that came from the garden and were not animals. So he did eat. But when he became older and is now in the health industry (nuclear medicine) he is a total vegan. He refuses to touch meat of any kind. He's not PETA either, he just thinks they all have worms and that animals have souls. He still resents us to this day for telling him some Turkey and chickens grew out of the garden.

And that reminds me of a time we vacationed in Bermuda when I think my DH and I ate horsemeat that we purchased at a local store there. We thought was hamburger but noticed that it was extremely lean. I've never seen hamburger that lean in my entire life!

We put it on this habachi grill at our villa (cottage) and it all fell through into the coals! So we dug them out and cleaned it and fried it on the stove but my DH to this day says it was horsemeat! (WHINNY).
