Our Spelling Bee for homeschooled children here in our county is Dec 5th at 1:30 PM EST and my son Matt (age 12) and my daughter Annie (age 6) will be participating, if they do well in the division Matt is participating in he will be eligible to go on to the regionals and compete against the private and public schools.

Just wanted to let you all know, we're so excited. This is their first time. We'll be taking lots of pictures and I will post them as soon as it happens.

Have any of you ever participated as homeschoolers in a spelling bee before and made it to state level where you compete against the public schools?

Any experiences to share? Would love to hear your stories of it.

Love you sister in Christ,
Nannette (a.k.a. LupusMommyto5)

How Can U Find Out If This Is Offered In Other Areas Of The Us For Homeschoolers?
Is The Homeschool Groups Doing This Or Who? Great Idea

In our area it's sponsored by our states homeschool foundation. I would assume each state has one....course you can check with your local homeschool support groups they would know too if your state does that.

I am so excited...Wish us luck!

Well, today was the day.

First our day was brightened by the snow we got all night. My children were so excited.

At the spelling bee Annie was in Division one as she's only 6, she was the first one called up....I thought oh boy, but my daughter surprised me, she marched right up there like ok let me have it...They gave her 10 words, including apples to spell and she got all 10 correct! Yay! She was awarded a participation prize and got her picture taken and had a blast.

Matthew was in Division 3 and he made it all 5 rounds. He did really well he got a participation prize but he bombed out on zucchini....But he had his pictures taken as well, and we will be participating next year.

Afterwards the homeschooling partners who sponsored the spelling bee had everyone stay to celebrate with Apple Juice, Cookies, Rice Krispy treats and Candy Canes...

We had a great time, and wanted to to know how we did. I am so proud of them.:yeah
