I appreciate all the help with my other thread, but after talking to my mother in law (who is knee deep in WOF televangelists and loves them) she started saying that one of them (televangelists) said we will do greater works than Jesus. I said, "it doesn't get much greater than dying on the cross for all(humanity's) sins." My mil said it is in the Bible, but she couldn't tell me where. Also, another televangelist she watches (Andrew Wommack) says he raised his son from the dead. She said he (Andrew) commanded his son to raise and he did. Though I have looked online and there is some questions to the validity of this claim, then my mil went on to say we have the power to raise people from the dead. Again, I asked for scripture and she said that Paul raised people from the dead. Hmmm, so just wondering if any of you can help me with this.
I would appreciate any help with scripture to help with this. And if I am wrong about raising people from the dead, let me know.
Thanks so much!

:lol2 I don't know, but it's cute- caught my attention. As to "raising the dead"- if it REALLY happened, don't you think CNN, Fox News, NBC, ABC, and CBS would have broadcasted it? I do. They say things like this to make themselves sound ever so spiritual and holy, so that people will send them more money :tsk!
It's a shame your MIL is so BEWITCHED by these charletans and moneygrubbers, because they preach ANOTHER Gospel and ANOTHER Jesus :fear!! I do hope it is the real Jesus she believes in and trusts for her salvation :candle. There are a lot of FALSE converts in the world who have believed another gospel, and Paul warns us NOT TO BELIEVE IT!!

There are a lot of FALSE converts in the world who have believed another gospel, and Paul warns us NOT TO BELIEVE IT!!
This brings up an interesting topic. Because the works of the false prophets and other decievers are lifted up as being good because they produce conversions to Christ and other seemingly good fruit. I will give an example.
Choo Thomas is upheld as doing a great work for God and being of God even though her claims and her book are easily refuted by God's Word since they do not stand up to the test of scripture. Plus her experiences have classic example of demonic posession. One of the things that is always upheld is this idea that it is of God because it is causing people to come back to the Lord or get saved. Question is it true repentence and are the conversions to the true Christ or a false one?
We have to be discerning when it comes to these things. Alot of the people who have claimed repentence or conversion also are upholding whatever it was they were converted because of. In my example of Choo's book, the people who were "saved" or alledgedly came back to the Lord due to being moved by her book usually uphold what she says as truth and cannot see how it is bad since it supposedly produced good in them. Are they then being converted or brought back to another Christ instead of the true One? This has made me wonder. Because it seems to me that if they were truly being converted to Christ or turning back, they would run from those evil works after they saw them in truth.
And this has happened with quite a few who got saved in the charismatic movements or from the WoF and other false gospels. After they got saved and were subjected to the meat of the Word, they got away from those teachings. So if they never see the truth of those things they are following, can that be even considered a true turning to Christ? They would be following a false gospel and because the do not have the Spirit, no discernment or love of Truth ever becomes evident even though they might display a few good works. This makes you wonder.

“It is assumed that since God is paramount or supreme that nothing can happen without His approval. That is not what the Scriptures teach. In 2 Peter 3:9, Peter said, “The Lord is…not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” This clearly states that it is not the Lord’s will for anyone to perish, but people are perishing.”..Relatively few people are saved compared to the number that are lost. God’s will for people concerning salvation is not being accomplished. (Andrew Wommack - The Sovereignty Of God)
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.2 Peter 3:9
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:2 Peter 1:1
Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple Ps. 65:4

Ali, :heythere
Just wanted to say I remain in prayer for you. Anyway, whew! 'greater things that Jesus'!? :doh
Christ told the disciples that 'greater things than these' because He would send the Helper when He ascended to the. The following is some info on Andrew Wommack:
1) Andrew Wommack is a 5 point arminian who despises the true sovereignty of God and preaches against the doctrines of grace.
2) Andrew Wommack says the biggest false teaching in the body of Christ is 'The sovereignty of God'
3) Andrew believes if you are sick it is all your fault and you are not to pray to God to heal you, but speak to the sickness and cast it away, and if you dont get healed it is because of your unbelief which does not please the Lord.
4) Andrew is a word faith teacher and a huge fan of Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland and Charles Capps etc, 90% of his teachings come directly from these men.
5) Andrew believes that in order to get more money you should actually speak to your wallet and command more money to come your way - this is where the nickname 'name it claim it' - 'blab it grab it' comes from.
6) Andrew teaches decisional regeneration.
Andrew Wrote: "It is assumed that since God is paramount or supreme that nothing can happen without His approval. That is not what the Scriptures teach. In 2 Peter 3:9, Peter said, "The Lord is...not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." This clearly states that it is not the Lord's will for anyone to perish, but people are perishing."..Relatively few people are saved compared to the number that are lost. God's will for people concerning salvation is not being accomplished. (Andrew Wommack - The Sovereignty Of God)
This is nothing more and nothing less than a damnable blasphemy.
You will see below that Andrew has butchered this verse as he does to so much of God's word in order to make the word of God conform to his heretical teachings.
Let's see what the scripture really says:
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
in Job we read the following:
Job 23:13 But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.
who is the usward? - obviously it's the elect, because Peter is writing to:
2 peter 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
this video sums up 2 Peter 3:9 very well:
http://chrisjesusboy.wordpress.com/2007/02/16/2-peter-39-explained-by-scripture/
please also read these 2 articles by Alfred Chompff:

http://chrisjesusboy.wordpress.com/2007/01/07/is-it-gods-will-that-all-men-be-saved/
Reading such heresy does make me wonder what Andrew Wommack does with this verse:
Psalms 65:4 “Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.”

It is imperative that we learn to recognize and flow in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It's not only a blessing to us, but the lives of other people may depend on it. You are carrying someone's miracle.:tsk Don't let it stay inside. You have to learn how to release it.:tsk - A. Wommack
Totally unscriptural and
Absolutely WOF nonsense!!
Thanks True2Yeshua!! Great info!:hug:thumb:thumb

The context,of the verse when Jesus said 'You will do greater things than These" to the apostle, was not in making the dead rise(Because this sign will be use by the antiChrist to decieve many in the tribulation),but in being able to spread the gospel to the whole world, better than Jesus, because of the Holy Spirit who will, remind the disciple all things that Jesus teach them and will empower them in doing the works of Christ, aside from He going to the father to intercede for them, thus the need for Him to ascend in heaven,so that He can send the Holy spirit our helper, in spreading the Gospel of salvation.
In my opinion "Do greater things than this"means more in reaching more people to know the Good news of salvation, and not doing of miracles(whicj can be counterfieted)
There is no greater thing to do than to bring a soul in repentance to God,for as many as we can bring to the knowledge of Jesus' redemptive death on the cross.:)

:thumbI agree, Jean! To be even a small part in the salvation of another person is the greatest miracle of all- whether it is sowing or watering the seed- it is wonderful and a great privilege:yeah!!

Then why do we see Acts filled with the apostles doing miracles including raising the dead? We obviously shouldn't believe every claim as people do lie (especially via TV preachers) but I don't think we can throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Everyone would agree salvation is important but we see in Acts the miracles do assist to bring people to the point salvation.
