I have 3 kids all 10 & under - all boys. For Christmas they want a new game system. They have a Nintendo GameCube right now.
Which would be better an XBox or a PS3? They mainly play sports games, and I'm not intersted in the Wii because I don't think it has the depth of sports games available that the other ones have. I want one that they will be able to use for the next 5 or so years, and I think the novelty of the Wii will wear off.
Thanks.

I would suggest the xbox 360... Mainly because it has many more games to choose from including those in the sports genre. I was thinking of getting a PS3 before but the initial price was too much for me. It has a lack of games also it seems, plus none that really interest me at the moment..... And i like my 360 :P...

Do yuo think Microsoft is committed to the gaming as Sony is?

I believe yes, they're always making updates for games and for the system thats downloadable through Xbox live. They also have the xbox live arcade, there are many features, that many gamers love. The 360 has many great titles. Though their main goal is the almighty dollar, I believe they are committed to the gaming community, If they werent I dont think they'd be as successful as they are. But thats just my thoughts and opinions, you could ask someone else and their response could be the completely different than mine.

Question: Do you control how much time your kids spend on games?
I haven't bought mine a game system yet and I'm inclined to not do so.
They are doing more and more board games. A couple of them are learning chess. I kind of like the interaction they get from these.

Unless Sony starts selling some PS3's they could find themselves in a lot of trouble. The PS3 is too expensive, and it just doesn't have enough original titles at the moment. The PS3 hasn't caught on yet, and if it doesn't catch on soon I would have to wonder about the Playstations future.
The 360 has way better titles, and awesome graphics. Right now you can get an Xbox 360 Pro with the 20 gig hard drive with 2 games for $350. You can get the Xbox 360 with the 120 gig hard drive for a bit more (maybe $500?)
I would definately recommend the 360. It is a great system, it has great games, and it is a good value.

I'm assuming you have a 360 this is a bit off track but if you have xbl whats your gamertag.

I am probably one of a handful of holdouts who has not played their console online yet.
I am reluctant to try it because I have heard several people say that online play has ruined gaming for them, as they are unable to enjoy just sitting down by themselves and playing a single player campaign.
Sitting alone and playing through a campaign is still my favorite type of gameplay, although some split screen pvp with some buddies in the room is fun as well.
I know eventually I will be forced to subscribe to Xbox live, as I am in the small minority here, and the content being developed is heading more in that direction. But I plan on holding out as long as possible :) .
On an unrelated note, I just finished Mass Effect. It is hands down the best game that I have played in years.

I dont own a Console, however...
On the plus side for the PS3, it comes with a built-in Blue-Ray DVD player and is able to display in HD.

Oh my gosh I beat Mass Effect last week, and still cant put it down its amazing... I am a big fan of Halo but Im close to putting Mass Effect above it. It's kinda funny i went to walmart at 12:00 in the morning the day it came out and there were tons of people there but no one got Mass Effect they all were in line for Rock Band, they didnt even have Mass Effect out they had to go into the back to even see if they had it... lol...
