I have been tell my frends and family trying to wake them up! They just wont beleave it.My question is what do we do to prepare until the rapture. If things get really bad, I don't think gold or silver is going to be much good. After all, you can't eat or drink them, and they're both useless as tools, medicines, medical supplies, shelter, clothing, etc.

I'd say that you're doing well in stocking up on non-perishable food items, guns and ammunition. Make sure you have good tools, too, such as an axe, knife, hatchet, a hand-held saw, and rope. Tents, sleeping bags, blankets (the army surplus wool blankets can keep one very warm in cold weather), and clothing appropriate for the weather (coats, boots, socks, mittens/gloves, rain gear, shorts, etc) are also important.

Make sure you have other things, like tarps, a means to start a fire, some sort of water purification (bleach, filtration system, iodine), and some means of sanitation. The management of human waste is something seldom thought of, until the sewage system becomes inoperable. If you've got a rather large nujmber of people in your group, sewage management will VERY QUICKLY become of utmost importance. If people answer the call of nature near your living spaces, things will start to smell rather quickly. More seriously, likely fatal diseases such as dysentary and cholera thrive in areas where sewage is poorly managed. Make certain you've a plan to handle that, or all your other preparations will become meaningless in mere weeks when people start dying off from those diseases.

My preparation pretty much leans towards a sparse survivalist mindset. I've got a .22lr to procure small game, a center fire rifle for large game and human predators, a handgun for those times when a long gun is impractical and I need a gun in hand post-haste.

The axe and hatchet are for firewood and impromptu shelter construction; same thing with the hand-saw. The rope and tarps can be used for all sorts of things. Bleach can be used as a disinfectant, for washing, and for water treatment (drinking and sewage). Knives are great multi-purpose tools; old clothing such as socks and t-shirts can be used for bandages in a pinch.

A good resource to study is a series of books called "Foxfire". Written in the early 70s, it documented how residents of the Appalachian mountains were able to live, rather well, in the comparatively primative conditions of rural Appalachian Mountains communities.

Oh, another thing. Get a good .22 rifle and at least a few thousand rounds of ammo for it. There's a guy I know on a firearms board I belong to that told me him and his family used .22LR shells for barter during the Great Depression.

Also, if you have a center fire rifle, get as many cartridges as you can afford. Ammo will become pretty scarce as people start to hoard it. If you can, start reloading. It's much cheaper to reload your own ammunition than buying it at a store. I've got enough components to reload 1200 rounds of 7mm Remington Magnum. The cost per reloaded round is roughly $0.30, for a store-bought round (from a box of 20), it's at least $1.20.

How to prepare and survive economic disaster is a long shot because of one mitigating fact: The human element! Please do not read the following post if you are looking for a positive point of view, although the ending is positive. My outlook on what could (more than likely will) happen to us if (when) the economy collapses is far from positive. I apologize for what you are about to read.

I live in the Minneapolis area and if the essential needs for sustaining life (water, food, money, medicine, clothing and shelter) are diminished or no longer available, those who have prepared will be in great peril. The distressing truth is most people will not have prepared and in desperation will search, find, attack, and steal from those who have prepared. If you resist, they will injure or kill you.

As for hunting animals, forget it. The hunters (living in the rural areas) will capture and kill most domestic and wild animals within a few weeks. If you are able to hunt, you will be competing for any remaining food and could loose your life to a group of hunters who will view your presence as a threat to their survival. If you own private land rich in wildlife, desperate hunters and non-hunters alike will trespass showing no regard for signs that say Private Property – Keep Out.

Although our government will institute Martial Law and take our guns, lawless gangs with guns and weapons of all sorts will roam the city streets and neighborhoods unimpeded in the darkness of night looking for what they need. If you have it, they will take it including your life. If they are caught, what does it matter? Police will shoot them where they are, hiding in a hole or fleeing into a dark alley.

How do you prepare for such a horrific event? You cannot, and if you could…why? There is no future here, on earth, anymore. If you were to survive, what would the future hold for you? When the food and water is gone, you would most assuredly die. If you go looking for food and water, you will need to kill those having it because they will not share it with you (exceptions noted).

Note: Do not depend on local governments to set up rescue centers. My case-in-point is Katrina and the lack of ‘government support’ during good times.

Our only hope is in the Blessed Hope…the Rapture. Until then, we are to look for his coming and keep our minds fixed on him; and, if we do, he promises to keep us in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3 - You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on you!)

How am I preparing? I have chosen to keep my mind fixed on Jesus Christ and trust in Him. What about you?

It's my opinion that conditions won't become that dire untill after the Rapture of the Church. A very good study as to how things are likely to play out, short term, is what happened in Argentina.

The country experienced a complete collapse of its currency and economy, yet there was some semblence of basic services, etc. It was bad, and violent crime was prevalent, but it was not appocolyptic.

Most likely, our present leaders in the US, Canada, and Mexico will put the formation of the NAU on a fast track to ratification to stave off the conditions you describe. Our entrance into the NAU will probably keep the most serious scenarios at bay, at least until we're caught up.

Still, regardless, it is imprudent to not prepare, and it's terribly bad advice to give. Do you know how The Lord is leading me, and the original poster? I didn't think so. I've been lead to prepare for bad times coming, so has the OP, and I will do my best, and The Lord shall lead me as He sees fit.

Initially, I dismissed both your response because I did not want to haggle over viewpoints distorted by misinterpretation. Both of your replies to my post obviously missed the intent of what I was trying to share with Tracker. For you to suggest trusting in the Lord is bad advice when you have taken steps to trust in worldly provision is equally bad advice. Fortunately, for me, you cannot argue with Jesus who gave the same advice to his followers nearly two thousand years ago.

Jesus says in Matthew 6, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

There are many more verses like the preceding one. The Bible teaches we are to trust first in Him with the emphasis on trust and him. Although I provide for my family, invest in stocks, bonds, IRAs and savings, I am well prepared to protect my family during an emergency. What’s more, I fully agree with preparation but not to the extent that I trust in it. My point is that the collapse of our economy* will be more devastating than anyone can imagine and no level of preparation will prepare or save people regardless of their level of preparation.

*My opinion based on current financial and economic analysis.

Trusting in the Lord, when our worldly resources are gone, will be our only hope of safety, protection, and provision.

You should read Psalm 91 because it is replete with God’s promises to provide and protect those who abide (trust) in him. Nothing is said about provision because he is our provision. If the Lord chooses not to provide (for our physical needs after we have exhausted our worldly resources if any) and we, including our families die, what does it matter? That is my point! He will protect our souls and that is all he has ever promised to do…and that is all that matters.

On a closing note, Jesus made no provision for this world and directed his followers to do the same. I reaffirm my advice as both logical and biblical even though I, like you, have made preparation.

Jesus was talking about excessive worry that takes one's eyes off of Him. We are to trust The Lord, absolutely. But, we are also to follow His instructions (thanks to Dpfan for the Scripture):

If any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."

In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.

A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.

What’s more, I fully agree with preparation but not to the extent that I trust in it.

I trust my preparation for that is what I've been led by The Lord to do. My preparation is divinely inspired. If it were just me, I'd care not a whit about preparing for anything, and I'd be taking a 2 week trip to Gatlinburg :D. A 2 week trip to the Smokies is much more appealing to me than stocking up on bandages, clothing, food, medicines, ammo, axes, equipment, and some precious metals.

Imho, you all are talking about two different scenerios. It's common in discussions like this.

One is where things get very, very weird for ...... say a year or two and then gradually resume to some level of normalcy. THAT is very worth preparing for with some saved cash, food, .......... just extra supplies. Banding together with neighbors .... that whole thing. I think this is a good idea.

The other scenerio is more where there is a total collapse of civilization and the society goes into a state of anarchy. There is little hope for anything in that scenerio.

In both and as things are now, always trust in the Lord.
