James 2: 14-17 (NIV)
14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead
Does this passage not say we are called to do good works? I struggle to see why Bible Christians disregard this passage? The literal meaning seems pretty apparent to me.

'Dead' faith is still faith. It just isnt being put to good use.
Keep in mind, those verses are addressed to the 'brothers'. They are Christians.

True believers are not kicked back on some ideological assumption of going to heaven some day.
True believers are regenerated in spirit, converted unto true salvation, and translated into God's Kingdom of light and are already in God's family forever.
True believers are not following some religious ideology like the Liturgical system.
As for the passage.... good works automatically flow from a regenerated believer, a born again Christian.
Only those trapped in religious systems depend upon good works in their hopes of one day obtaining salvation, this false understanding is fooling millions into hell.
Regenerated believers practice the Holy Spirit's good works because they are saved and God has set them aside to do His will upon the earth.
They are not trying to obtain salvation and thus performing good works, reciting creeds, or practicing rituals in hopes God will one day accept them.
James is speaking of good works after salvation, not for salvation

This is such a tiring old ploy.

I am sorry but I do not see anything in the passage I listed or anywhere else in James about "true believers," "regenerated believer," "good works automatically flow," "good works after salvation," or "practice the Holy Spirit's good works because they are saved." I have read elsewhere on here that it is definately not good to add to the Bible.

James is addressing the church, those that were saved by Jesus, this was written way before the counterfeit church of catholicism began.

What does that mean?
That whole chapter was addressed to 'brothers'. See James 2:1
You just implied that at least some of them were 'dead'.
How can you have it both ways like that? Is there such a thing as a 'dead' Christian?
