Abandoned Baby Found
Omaha police still are searching for the mother of a baby abandoned behind a dumpster Saturday morning.
A woman found the baby after hearing its cries coming from the area near 66th and Fowler.
She called 911. The baby was taken to the hospital by ambulance and is in good condition.
Neighbors and police still have many questions.
"She was over there. She was putting her child in the car seat in the back and that's when she heard the noise and the baby crying and that's what brought her over here," says Louis Ojeda a friend of the woman who found the baby.
Louis Ojeda gave an account of a telephone call he received just after 7 a.m. Saturday from a friend.
The woman told Ojeda that between a dumpster and a broken television, she found a crying baby boy on the ground.
"I wanted to cry and I don't cry. Why would anyone abandon a poor little baby, a helpless little baby?" says Ojeda.
Police say the newborn is less than 24 hours old and is alive.
