I was talking to my family over Thanksgiving about the fact I am boycotting anything from China due to their lack of safety with our children.

I was told that K'NEX was American own and he thought was American manufactured. They make Lincoln Logs and I know for a fact that product is made in China because I saw a package and wanted to buy one for my daughter. So, I wrote the company to see if there other products (K'NEX and BRIO) were made in China. After sending the email, I realized, "I can just go to the recall page and that will at least tell me if anything was recalled from China". I found some toys that were recalled and were manufactured in China.

The first email was sent to them on November 23rd. I just received an email from them saying....
Greetings from K'NEX and Lincoln Logs. Thank you for your inquiry about
the safety of the products we produce. Please refer to the attached
letter from the president of K'NEX Brands for information on the safety
of our products.

Your Friends at K'NEX!

Here is the attachment (in pdf format)

To all our customers:
My wife, Ellen, and I are parents of a 9 year old girl and 6 year old boy. We have been seeing and reading the stories
about consumer products recalls, including the toy recalls. As a family owned, US based manufacturer of toys, we
take the issue of safety very seriously.
You can feel confident knowing that all K’NEX bricks, rods and connectors are manufactured at our family owned
factory in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, under the strictest of guidelines and using raw materials from premier quality US
manufacturers. We pride ourselves in providing you with a highly enjoyable and safe product. During this time of
heightened sensitivity to toy safety, K’NEX will add a clearly visible label to the front of our products stating that
“K’NEX Bricks, Rods and Connectors are made in the USA.” The label is expected to begin appearing next month.
K’NEX Brands manufactures and sells building sets under the KID K’NEX® and K’NEX® brand names and Lincoln
Logs®.* We are also the exclusive distributor of BRIO® products in the U.S. and Canada. Lincoln Logs are
manufactured in China by an ICTI certified factory. ICTI is the International Council of Toy Industries and more
information can be found at www.toy-icti.org. Each factory is inspected, monitored and subject to periodic safety spot
checks throughout the year.
In addition, all products manufactured by K’NEX Brands conform to ASTM F963-03, the American Society for Testing
and Materials standard for toy safety (see www.astm.org for more information). This voluntary standard is recognized
by the toy industry and governmental agencies as the defining standard for toy safety. Adherence to this standard
means that building sets from K’NEX Brands do not use materials and designs that may be harmful to children.
Every component of every new product we manufacture is tested before the product is produced to make sure that
the final product meets ASTM F963-03 safety standards. As a routine part of our safety assurance program, K’NEX
Brands components are routinely examined by an independent, third-party laboratory to ensure that they meet U.S.
safety standards.
This year K’NEX is celebrating 15 years of making quality construction toys. Be assured that we are mindful of U.S.
toy safety standards and have measures in place to make sure our Lincoln Logs, Brio and K’NEX brand toys are safe
for your children.
We thank you for your loyalty, confidence and support.
Very truly yours,
Michael Araten
President & COO

(I tried to attach the file to this thread, but it wouldn't let me)

The point of this whole thread is, they lied. I wrote another email back to them telling them of my findings and that they should reconsider sending this attachment out anymore because it just hurts their image even more.

The letter is a little confusing, but what I get out of it is the bricks, rods and connectors are USA made, but Lincoln Logs are made in China.

Lincoln Logs are
manufactured in China by an ICTI certified factory.

I'm not buying anything from China either, I'd rather pay a little more and be safe.

I'm boycotting China products.
I'm only going to seek American made products and if I can't find any... then :thinking guess I will make some other alternatives eh?

Wow! I thought I was the only person that was against China products, but I have heard news stories about how American is trying to avoid China made products. BUT Americans will go to a limit. There was a Hanna Montana doll that I saw at Target. I looked at it because my daughter LOVES Hanna Montana and of course, it was made in China. There were like 10 of them. I went back to that same Target the next day (looking for another toy) and they were all gone except one that was defective. So I think as long as it isn't a BIG deal, they will avoid it but otherwise, they will buy it.

For every one of us that boycots chinese made toys, there are at least 10 people who will buy them regardless.
Human nature is very predictable.

True, but at least the effort is being noticed by the toy companies.

I was told once that every time you buy something, you are sending in a vote. If you do not buy things for China, you are voting to oppose China.

I went to Wal-mart yesterday afternoon and at the checkout, they were selling the Wal-mart reusable bags. Before I could say anything the clerk said "I'm supposed to tell you that we have these bags for sale for 1.00, so now that I've said what I HAVE to say, I'll tell you that they are made in China". I thought that was very brave of her to say that right off the bat while still trying to "sell" them like she was supposed to do. I heard her start the same way with the customer behind me.
