I was reading Revelation 21 the other day about the New Jerusalem.

14The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb

Which twelve? After Judas died, the apostles got together to choose his replacement. They chose Mathhias based on a role of the dice? I think.

Acts 1:26
Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.

But we all know that Jesus appeared to Paul and made him an apostle in Acts 9.

And we hear Paul's testimony that he is an apostle.
Romans 1:1
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God—
Romans 11:13
I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I make much of my ministry
1 Corinthians 1:1
Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,

So which twelve will have their names written there?

I believe Paul is the replacement because Jesus picked him

That is what I thought too. Thank you.

I believe Paul is the replacement because Jesus picked himJust some food for thought: Some feel the choice of Matthias was a wrong one. It is contended that this was a poor method of choosing and Paul should have filled the vacancy left by Judas’ apostasy. However, those who believe Matthias was a proper selection argue that Matthew 19:28 is Jewish in its orientation and Paul was to minister to Gentiles (Gal. 2:9). Furthermore Luke, Paul’s friend and companion, acknowledged the Twelve as an official group (Acts 2:14; 6:2). Finally, there is no sense or spirit of censure in the Acts account on the selection of Matthias.

(For whatever reason, this keeps splitting the quote and citation)

I also agree it was Paul. Jesus picks his own Apostles. Perhaps The Word was trying to tell us, in Acts, that the Apostles were following the command of The Great Commision to make disciples of all nations, and they chose Matthias as their first. Besides, Jesus just left them on a cloud, and they talked to Angels, afterwards. Mind-boggling. And they couldn't foresee His picking of Paul. Just thoughts.

I, too, believe it is Paul. Matthies was chosen by "lot"; Paul was chosen by Him :) <><

Besides, Jesus just left them on a cloud, and they talked to Angels, afterwards. Mind-boggling. And they couldn't foresee His picking of Paul. Just thoughts.I believe you'll find that Matthias was not their "first" disciple just based upon the requirements they set forth for choosing him:
Acts 1:21-23 (NASB95)
21 "Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us—
22 beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us—one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection."
23 So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias. So you can see Matthias wasn't one of their "first" converts/disciples, he spent about 3 1/2 years with Christ like the others did, he was already a disciple, just not appointed as an apostle.

Thank-you for correcting me Matheteou. The why's of now are hard enough, let alone the why's of 2000 years ago. Brothers and sisters in Christ are supposed to correct one another, and I'm not a prideful person when it comes to the Word. So I offer my thanks again.

Cross Reference these five to Ezekeil 48:31-34 "And the gates of the city shall be after the names of the tribes of Israel: three gates northward; one gate of Reuben, one gate of Judah, one gate of Levi. And at the east side four thousand and five hundred: and three gates; and one gate of Joseph, one gate of Benjamin, one gate of Dan. And at the south side four thousand and five hundred measures: and three gates; one gate of Simeon, one gate of Issachar, one gate of Zebulun. At the west side four thousand and five hundred, with their three gates; one gate of Gad, one gate of Asher, one gate of Naphtali."

I see the verse its 14 ... will research this one
