Anyone play Eve Online? Just started and find that it is pretty involved and the graphics are amazing. If you have a charactor in the Game, leave the name. Mine is Renturu. :)

It's an awesome game :nod

I play off and on (off at the moment, but the siren call is strong ;) ), and I know there are several others around here that play too.

I have an active account, but I haven't logged in much in about a week or so other than to swap skills training. I got back into City of Heroes and have been distracted.

One thing. It's easy to get overwhelmed in eve. My advice is to find one thing you want to do and start there. Set a goal if you will. I liked running missions so I concentrated my skills on getting a better ship and abilities to fly it. Once I got tired of running missions I did some mining. While mining I decided to try my hand at manufacturing, I now make my own ammo.

Be cautious of lowsec (.4 space and below), but don't be scared. It's not always instadeath when you step inside.

INSURE your ships. If and when you lose it it hurts less. I took my first crusier into lowsec to guard my wife while she was mining. I forgot to insure it. Someone came in and tackled me and I was soon in my pod. I had just spend all my isk on that ship and getting it tricked out. Luckily a corp mate had a spare. Some lessons hurt.

Ingame I'm Je'rin. I'm usually in Amarr space around Gamis where my corp hangs out. I'll probably be on some next week when I start working on my skilling up my mining barge.

Software to look into. Evemon helps you plan your skill training and gives you a good estimate on how long it will take to train the skills.

EFT (Eve Fitting Tool) allows you to fit out ships so you can see if you've got the skill and space to equip what you want before you go out buying expensive stuff. Before that I wasted some good isk on stuff I was skilled to use, but just couldn't fit without making some sacrifices.

Awesome guys! I'm with a Corp now - Fantasy Universe. They are very helpful, and have given me alot of things to help get me on the way. We do delivery runs and quite a few pirate and terrorist hunts. Great group of guys (and one girl). About twenty or so in the group.

I know what you mean that it can be quite overwhelming. It is so huge, and there is so much to do w/in the game. I agree w/ you that it just takes time and the neccesity to set a goal. But I recommend for others to not go it alone in the beginnig. It can be quite difficult and frustrating.

I recommend a corp. whos mission statement says something along the lines of helping new players progress and seeking others who just like to have fun in the game. Some people can get WAY TOO SERIOUS. Those are the ones to keep away from IMO.

Heh, Have fun, but be very careful about who you trust. Haven't played it per se, but I researched it for English Composition about two years ago, and the CC is there for one reason, to make sure people don't go off hacking and breaking the rules entirely. That being said, there's not much that's outside the rules.

Go and look up Guiding Hand Social Club, they represent the furthest that EVE can be taken to. They infiltrated a corp (on contract for only a billion ISK), over the course of a full year, got their "valentine op" into the second in command position within the corp, then proceeded to cap the leader of the corp, Mirial, while simultaneously pulling off a massive heist of everything within the target corp (Ubiqua Seraph)'s hangars. Total damages were roughly 30 billion ISK, and at the time, the eBay exchange rate converted the damages to a value of about $16,500.

*ends rant*

But yeah, never use the corporate hangar for anything other than basic "point A to B" ships, or you may find yourself missing some very expensive equipment for good.

I always assume that anything I put into the corporate hanger is given away. Kinda like lending money in real life. That way if I get it back it's cool, but if not it's no big deal.

Some might say that in EvE paranoia is not a psychosis, it's a way of life. That can be a little extreme, but you get the picture.

Yeah, the game mechanics frankly lend themselves to a dog-eat-dog mentality even within individual corps, a lot of people won't really trust people unless they know the other person's real-life name, and a few other details, just as a very big security precaution.

Welcome to the thread reborn! You have some great insight. I will let my Corp prez know about this. Fantasy Universe (my corp) is more or less like family.. They gave me my first Cruiser (3.2 Mil) and various armaments to boot. I also have kill rights from when I was a rookie and they are planning on going after the pirate who got me. Lets just say, they want to avenge my loss.

I agree w/ brick on the group hangar issue. There are things that are put into ours that we assume we will not see again. The prez of our corp stated to us to keep the important things we want to keep for ourselves in our private storage and ONLY those things we can go without in the group.

Hope you get in the game reborn. It's pretty cool and so much more to it than chasing and looting pirates. Some people have started law firms w/in the game. Check this... I just found out that you can even be a Priest (Amarian of course) to hold services, funerals, and weddings. Deep.

Agape!

See ya in the game Brick!
