Ok , a FRIEND..... built my husband a super dooper ,gaming PC. It worked for a few days... then died. He said it was a Bios ? problem and fixed it, no big deal right?
Well now the computer will not work in MY HOUSE..... only his house...!!??
We changed cords, changed rooms, changed surge protectors , we did everything!
The monitor will light up, the computer will light up... but it wont boot up! I tried the monitor on another pc it works.... gave the other monitor to his computer and it still wont work!!
But take it to that guys house and it does work! We seen it work!
BUT NOT HERE..... i called the electric company.... they didnt know either.
My husband is very upset, we are loosing "friends" over this, and ruining our weekend.... plus we are out all that money.
PLEASE SOMEONE HAVE AN ANSWER!

Your monitor is fine, but your CPU is not working right. I think it's hd problem. Did you reformat your main hard drive and reinstall everything including your OS software?

Do the lights on the front come on?
Is there anything on the display at all?
Are there any beeps or other sounds when it boots up?
The PC will do some self tests when it boots up before it starts to read the hard drive and load the operating system.
Even before this happens there may be a series of beeps that would indicate a problem that can be diagnosed.
Otherwise, the first thing that is checked after the P.ower O.n S.elf T.est (POST) is the video card. You see this by some white text on the screen (the first thing seen after booting up) that tells you the video info.
If the lights light up, and it passes the POST with out any strange beeps and such and there is no video, it would probably be the video card. Try reseating it like mentioned below.
I would suspect that if it works there and not here, but other stuff works here, then there may be something loose that is being jostled in transport.
If he hasn't already tried this, have your friend remove and re-seat all the components and plugs.
It may be a video card isn't seated properly into the slot it rests in, so that when it is moved it makes or breaks the connection it needs.
It could be the same with the cables from the power supply to the mother board too, or the memory or even the CPU.
Remove and re- installing them would be the first thing I would do.
That would cost nothing other than a few moments to try.
After that, I would go after the power supply, try swapping that out, it's probably the least expensive item to start swapping.

He took it to his house twice and it works.... brought it back here and it dont.
The lights on the front come on.... no beeping... the monitor comes on like there is no pc hooked to it. ( no matter what monitor in the house)
But it works at his house just fine?

He is claiming it is something wrong with our house! But if the computer worked in this house before the BIOs problem ( mind you i dont understand computers and dont know what that means) and now it wont work in this house... it sounds like a computer problem.... i have called the electric company and there is nothing wrong with the house? Yet it works in his house!

How can he blame the house? Gremlins spooking up the place? :scratch Is he connecting the machine through a UPS at his house, which you don't have at your place?

It could be memory or motherboard... two most likeliest options. If the computer seems to be working but the monitor isn't working with it it could be the drivers that are loading to work with the monitor.
Suggstions. Ground yourself. Open up computer case. Check and make sure that the little screws holding the motherboard in place are not overly tight. Check and make sure everything is plugged in nice and tight, including all the power plugs.
It's not your house.

Oh trust me he is blaming the house. Since it works in his and not mine... he is tring to pass the buck! Well i want all the bucks.... all of them i paid back! Or the pc fixed and running in my house!
Even my husband is starting to wonder if God just wont allow him to have a computer.... this is stupid and ruining Christmas!
I swear if i was rich i would take that pc and shoot it repeatly!
My husband is bound to get that guy to come here and fix it... im read y to leave it on his doorstep with something about going to jail if he dont pay....
as for his wife who is my friend... well i guess i can cut her off now, understandable she stands by her husband.... as i stand by mine... and my money i paid!
I need prayer! As for the UPS.... i dont think so... just a surge protector, i would call and ask but they wont answer..... some friend!

Have you tried it in a third house yet?
