OK, this is probably the most TRIVIAL of all disputes and I am embarrassed to admit this is bothering me so much. I could use prayer and godly advice from my sisters right now!
Here is the dilemma: For the past 15 years of our marriage we have used plastic dishes from Target, and they have served their purpose well. We are now in a position to buy other dinnerware. The kind I am looking at is a beautiful stoneware.
The problem is, while DH likes that pattern, he doesn't care for the color (gold) I have selected. He wants to use a color (blue)that doesn't go with our new kitchen. He just likes the color alone, without considering about the whole look of the kitchen.
Ya know, I have been waiting for this moment for a Loooooooong time, and it is here, and I am a little resentful that he just wont say something like "Go for it honey It'll look great!" Instead, he said, "Well go ahead and get what YOU want, but the gold reminds me of __,"
Any advice, I am kind of hurt, disappointed. Silly, isnt it? It isn't like it is only MY kitchen.... :crying

I agree with lisaann. Hold onto the money you were going to buy the dishes with and just keep looking. There's got to be a compromise you can both agree on. :) It's hard though, I know. :hug

Could you look for dinnerware that is mainly gold with some subtle blue in it just to make him happy, then put some blue touches elsewhere in the kitchen to pull it all together?
(I don't want to offend any man-lurkers, but) I really can't stand it when men try to decorate, especially in the woman dominated areas of the home, which BTW is mostly all of them except maybe the garage. I know men have to live in our homes too, but most men just can't decorate IMO.
Twenty years ago, I sent my husband to the store for some yellow paint for our bedroom. I shouldn't have been shocked (but I was) when he came home with paint that was literally the color of street lines. :faint :gaah :twitch
I had to add a whole gallon of white to the gallon of yellow in order to use it, so we ended up paying double for the paint what we would have if I would have just gone and bought it. :ohno Who in their right mind would want to sleep in a bedroom that color, and no, he is not color blind.
Okay, done with my :rant now.
I feel for ya, Sealed. :hug I don't know how long you've been married, but maybe as time goes by your DH will take less of an interest in these things and just let you do your thing. Mine has.:heh

Lisa, Yeah, I was afraid everyone would say that. I thought maybe we could all pray for him to change his mind :aha
I had no idea he would care! I think his heart is set on robbins eggg blue dishes so that will probably be it, maybe throw some gold and cream in too. fiesta ware like. :thinking

LOL.. Hubby and I had corelle dishes the first 8 years we were married. Then I went out and bought solid white plates because well the kitchen was red and white and I couldn't find a good red dish... Then we had kids and and I got tupperware dishes. My youngest turned 6 this year and I pulled out the white dishes.
Wait until you find something you can both agree on. It will be worth it in the end

Hold out until after Christmas. Maybe he knows something that you don't know. If, you don't get a surprise, just keep praying and possibly get the dishes you want and buy him a blue plate. LOL

Yeshua's Bride, your paint story made me laugh!:)
You hit the nail on the head, though. That is exactly how I am feeling. Ya know, I just figured that the decorating was my job and I love it. And, I wanted him to like it. So, I am being a little sensitive about it, I guess. Maybe territorial. When I was a child, my mom did all the homemaking and my dad just said it was "purty". :)
Anyway, we have touches of gold (not the shiny metallic color) here and there in the kitchen, like on the curtains, and a couple of chairs in the adjoining sunroom have gold colored fabric, but the kitchen walls are blue and the kitchen fireplace stones are blue stone, and there is already so much blue. It is a different blue than the dish color. The golden-yellow plate would have tied everything in nicely.
I think that everyone here has the right idea. I am sure Dh won't have a problem with mixing colors around a bit.:rotate Maybe 5 blue place settings, 5 gold-yellow, and 5 off-white. The plates are solid color. And, there are 5 of us.
We have been married 15 years. Hopefully, he too will grow out of his decorating phase soon .:heh
