We are going to pull our kids from PS, and are looking at different HS programs. We have been seriously considering the Robinson curriculum - does anyone here use it? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks~

I found this at homschoolreviews.com. There was only review on it. I have never heard of it, so I'm not much help.

I'm fairly certain this is the curriculum that was created by a widowed father. He put all this together and the children did the work while was at work, very self-directed learners I'd say! Before you plunk down your money, get a few G.A. Henty books and see if they are interesting to your children. You could get some thru inter-library loan.

Also, Mary Pride has a book that reviews lots of curriculums so that might help you. A book I recomment to all new homeschoolers is The First Year of Homeschooling Your Child: your complete guide to getting off to the right start. Written by Linda Dobson.

Thanks Ladies....you ARE much help, whether you know it or not!

I've been doing a lot of research on curriculums, and I like that the Robinson is self-taught (my oldest is very self-motivated....actually, they both are). Also, it is pretty inexpensive compared to most of what I've seen.

I will check into what you suggested, mom211, but I'm still hoping to get some response from people who might use the Robinson......or know someone who does!

:wave Hi, Broken!

Sorry, I do not know anything about Robinson Curr.:idunno to help you out there. Maybe Robinson would send you sample materials?

This is our first year to homeschool, too, and I can make a recommendation for Rod and Staff in the event you decide not to pursue Robinson. I LOVE these books and they are inexpensive.

We also use Math U See (We started outwith R&S but MUS is mastery approach that my math challenged ds NEEDS)

They have web sites if you are interested. And they will send you samples

A friend of mine uses it, so far with her oldest who is 5 (but a genius). From what I know, you have to print off the books as most of them are out of print. If you have a printer and don't mind using a lot of ink and paper, then that's not a concern (and I MAY be wrong about this). I know that it wouldn't work for my kids, as they are not self-motivated at all and would get very tired of using flash cards over and over and over again until math facts are learned.

Does Robinson use Saxon? I am not a fan, personally. Sorry to not be encouraging, but this is what I know -- am just passing it along.

You might try contacting the company and asking if they can put a satisfied customer who lives near you in touch with you. Seeing the curriculum in person can be very helpful.

They recommend Saxon, but it is up to the user to pick a math program. That is why I was thinking of Ray's instead. I will look into some of the different maths before I decide, though.

My kids are older, in middle and high school, and get good grades with no enforcement from us, so a self-taught curriculum will work best!

Thank you Sealed and MidnightCry for the links and info - I'll check them out.
