View Full Version : Are "Post Counts" Really Nessesary?

What purpose does a person's post count actually serve?:scratch
As new as this MB is, there are already posts dedicated towards driving up one's post count.
I know some people feel a higher post count is desireable, and I certainly do not wish to rain on anyone's parade, but I am simply wondering if it is needed.:idunno
I posed this question once on another MB/forum, and it was swiftly poo-poo'ed and locked/closed by an Admin/Moderator.

I agree, I would think a New Member, Junior Member, Senior member and absent member for those who have not posted in a couple months would be better. after a Absent member posred another few posts it could revert back to where it was prior.

I was only joking with the post count thread. Just having some fun. I don't really care how many posts I have. On the old board I never knew how many I had.
If it's a problem, you can delete that thread. Kathe

Ma'am,
I don't have a problem at all with it... I am just curious if it serves a purpose.
Sorta like my appendix... I don't know why its there or what purpose it serves - its just there!

Ma'am - boy does that make me sound old - LOL! I don't know really. I really made the thread to just get people livened up a bit and having some fun after the dark days we all just went through. Thanks, Kathe

Some of the settings on the board were set in default, and post counts was one of them that was default on. We might hide that, but if someone wants to know your post count, they can always view your profile. There's no way to hide them in that area. That's the way the board comes from the factory. :idunno
We might discuss changing that if enough people don't like it. Let's see if we get anymore complaints about it. :)

There are lots of factory settings that we tweak as we get to them.
It's not like we some kind of agenda going on

The only reason I can see that they are necessary is for people to recognize a new people and maybe cut them some slack because they don't know their way around, and to welcome them.
Otherwise I believe they are a detriment to the board and to posting. It shouldn't matter how many posts people have and I think it would be better to cut them.
Also, thanks for not putting the stats at the bottom of the board. Boards who need to show how many posts a day, how many threads, how many total, how many new members they got, it looks like they need to puff themselves up to show how wonderful they are. I like the simplicity of what's been done here. :)

I heard that the first member to 10,000 gets a prize.
