Anyone use BJU History? I am at the end of my rope with History and Science right now. I am going to get Exploring Creation Through Biology for my oldest daughter and do Exploring Creation Through Astronomy (already have it and did it once with my oldest) with my 8 year old so I think I have Science taken care of, but History is killing me! I am also adding another child this January so I really need to get things nailed down here. :panic If you have used BJU for History, what grades did you use?

I used it one time for 7th or 8th grade, and it's a textbook. I don't really care for text books. I feel that history is best learned from reading books about different periods in history, especially for younger kids. I also like unit studies for history because it's more hands on, and you can incorporate other subjects into the study.

If you oldest is doing Biology than I assume she is in highschool, and she may like doing the BJU textbook. My highschooler is using A Beka's American History and she likes it, but she's a very independent learner. My 8 year old is finished with history for now, and I'll be putting her in a co-op science class. For 4th grade we'll be using an Ancient History unit study that I used with my older child. We enjoyed it so much, I'm going to use it again with my younger child.

Yes, she is older, 9th grade. She is a big time reader but I have lots my Well-Trained Mind book :doh! and I don't have the reading list for her. I could just CRY over it! Plus, I really wanted her to focus on American History and not have a lot of the world mixed into it right now and I want it taught from a Christian POV. She is the one I am stressing about because I know she will be off to college soon and I want her to be prepared.

:hug HSmom, try not to get too upset. Here's what I suggest you do, and I only suggest it because it's what I ended up doing with my teenage daughter and it just happened to work. Let your daughter look at different History curriculum and then let her choose which one she would like to use, but she has to stick with it. You will still have to approve it, but by giving her the choice she will be actively participating in the management of her own education, which is a very good thing. If your daughter is able to do as much of this on her own, she will be very well prepared for college.

BTW, my teenage daughter will be 17 in February, and she is in the 11th grade. She makes a lot of decisions on her own, and is very proactive in her education. She takes it very seriously, especially since I have let her handle a lot of the decisions regarding her curriculum.

BJU has dvd's that you can rent. It has the teacher on it that teaches each subject. I might get this for my son. You have to return them at the end of the year I think.

We're doing Exploring Creation Through Astronomy and my eight yr old loves it. He can read the text book by himself which I love!! I am planning on using Beautiful Feet for history for the 4rth grade. Right now we're doing "History of US" and I suppliment with readers I find at the bookstore or library. It's an overview of US history. Also using Story of the World for ancient history and supplementing that with readers and usborne books. There are a lot of Usborne books you can use for history. I love them and know a lot of homeschoolers that love them too. I never used BJU so cannot comment on that.
