Hi guys, I was over at anopther site and some one asked the following question to Catholics:

Qestion: Can someone tell me the requirements for salvation, as taught in the CC?

I'd like to see if these are the same requirements of the Catholics here at RR?? :scratch

Short answer: be baptized and die in a state of grace. For most people, these two events will be some time apart, during which we fall from grace by sinning. So we get back into a state of grace through prayer, worship and developing our relationship with God, frequent use of the sacraments, practicing works of mercy, and through the prayerful intercession of the saints, the holy souls, and others on Earth. Persevere in these until death.

Does this sound like salvation through "grace through faith"?? Or does it sound like a "works" based salvation plan?? One thing was interesting and I don't know if it is just me or what, but they did not even mention anything about Jesus or faith in Jesus in the so called "short" answer. :scratch

Catholicism teaches works based righteousness and salvation. Is that new news to you? They do not believe in the finished work of Christ on the cross. There is only one saving gospel as taught in the whole council of God in the bible and that gospel is not preached in the Catholic Church.

The Gospel is preached in the Catholic Church; you have to find a good one with a Priest who preaches the Gospel. I had to look a while. First and foremost you have to accept Jesus and he died and suffered so that your sins can be forgiven and be baptized into the Lord. 2nd thing is you have to live by the teachings of Jesus which are in the Gospel Readings. The Beatitudes and then to Feed the Poor, Visit the Sick and all of the other teachings he taught. Do not judge your brother before you judge yourself. Of Course the Golden Rule to Love One Another and also to forgive others. You don't have to be perfect at it, but you do need to make an effort. The sacraments are just tools to help you become more like Jesus and live by his teachings better. We will never be as good or perfect like him, but we should make an effort.

You can't just say, Jesus I love you with my whole heart, mind and soul and then just ignore everything he taught and say he died for my sins and then don't even make an effort to live by what he taught.

Did Jesus teach this:

"Now, therefore,
we declare, say, determine and pronounce
that for every human creature
it is necessary for salvation
to be subject to the authority of the Roman pontiff."
~ Pope Boniface VIII

seashell, is your salvation subject to the authority of the Roman pontiff?

No way. I strongly, contend that it is not! Nowhere does the Catholic Church preach the saving knowledge of confidence alone in Christ's finished work on the cross and His resurrection. If the gospel of salvation that is preached is not solely of God's doing and to the glory of Jesus Christ alone, then it is not the biblical gospel. It is another false gospel.

The Catholic Church preaches that Christ died for our sins. That is not the saving gospel. The Catholic Church adds requirements to the work of Christ - they preach a personal salvation based on leading a moral life and good works - they preach the receipt of grace through the sacraments alone - they require penance to pay for our own sin in the here and now and paying for our own sin after death in purgatory. They fully deny the sufficiency of the atonement of Jesus Christ that paid our debt for sin. And that is not biblical, and it will not lead to being born from above. And sadly, it does not save. It may make you feel good and it may make you feel like you are in control, but it will not save.

The Catholic Church is about trying to imitate the life of Christ under your own power. It is not about being transformed internally by the gift and power of God to lead a righteous life.

I know Catholics who are truly saved. Somewhere along the line, they heard the Gospel. They believe that Jesus' work on the cross IS enough and they trust Him and Him alone for their salvation...yet, they do still practice some of the traditions of the Catholic religion.

I also know good little Methodists, Baptists and other denominations who have literally shocked me with some of their ideas--Jesus isn't the only way, Jesus was married, being good gets you into Heaven, etc.

I'm speaking about people as individuals--and what they truly believe doesn't always match up with the major teachings of the denomination they're affiliated with.

It would have to have been somewhere other than through Catholic Teaching. You would have to close your eyes to alot and constantly ignore the Spirit's prompting to leave if you were truly born again and chose to continue worshipping in the Catholic Church.
