Genesis 6:4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
From this I think that the fallen angels had tried to ruin the line of which Jesus would come by creating a demonic race. After the flood other fallen angels would try again (perhaps in smaller numbers) but would be killed off.
Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

also patrick heron has a book that is called the nephilim and the pryamid of the apocalypse that is very interesting.how a pyramid winds up in the middle of Nephilim is pure marketing

Well, I've just viewed all 12 parts of Chuck Missler's "Return of the Nephilim" on Youtube...and taken together with this thread...it's not left me any more enlightened on the matter...:scratch

However I think we're all agreed that the "sons of Seth - daughters of Cain" theory can be safely put aside? Am I getting atleast that bit right? :idunno

It all boils down to the Biblical teaching of not being yoked with unbelievers.

Well, actually I wasn't really wanting there to be nephilim....I am writing a paper for my mythology class in college. And wanted to be sure of what I am writing about. We all have favorite doctrines, biblical or not

So Mr. Mann what you are saying is there is no reason to believe that Goliath was a nephilim....and all nephilim were destroyed in the flood? Is that right?Goliath was not a Nephilim, he was one of the giants, about 9'

In Revelation 9:1-10 it says this...

"The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss. And out of the smoke locusts came down upon the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. They were not given power to kill them, but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes a man. During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them. The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. They had tails and stings like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months."

So here is the question; I have a friend who when reading this passage believes that John is talking NOT about actual demonic Locust but rather something else. He believes that, in fact, that the Locust can or could be a type of military craft such as a heliocopter that has a painting on the front, and that the sting from the tail is probably some sort of weapon that can leave a person tourtmented as described in Revelation.

I shared with him that these locust were in fact as Scripture describes, from the abyss and therefore demonic in nature. He disagrees.

I was wondering what other peoples thoughts are on this. Please understand, I'm not trying to speculate ANYTHING here, just trying to understand this portion of scripture.

Thanks, :idunno

"They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree..." This indicates to me that it really IS an insect (locust). The fact that they are told not to harm vegetation (which is what insects do) leads me to believe that they really are locusts.

:thumb I agree with twisty58.

Also, none of the judgements that God uses are man-made... which helicopters are. He uses fire, water, disease, famine, earthquakes, etc. all God-made creations.

Maybe find out why your friend thinks that this one judgement would be different than what is so vividly explained? In the other judgements that are also clearly explained, the earthquake is an earthquake, the water turning to blood is water turning to blood, etc. Might want to see what his view is on the other judgements?

A long time ago, when i was very little, i watched a video at a bible camp where people who did not get raptured would hear a knock at the door, thinking it was a person knocking would open it up, only to get struck by this locusts stinger and be in so much pain from it.

I believe that those in the abyss are fallen angels that God has imprisoned until that time, because they came to earth and went against their nature and did evil things. I also believe that these demons do not have a choice on how they are to appear out of the abyss, but they appear as God chooses for his workings.

These are demons, not locusts and not military war craft.

The abyss is the confinement for fallen angels, it is opened by a "fallen star", meaning a "fallen angel". Why would "modern military craft" come out of the abyss? They have a king over them, Abaddon or Apolyon, which means destruction and OT scripture tells us that locusts don't have kings-so this is another hint that these are demons. In the next trumpet and 2nd woe, 4 angels are released who are bound in the river Euphrates, they lead the 2nd demonic invasion. The first is lead by one fallen angel, the second by 4. The first tormented, but could not kill...the second will kill 1/3 of the population left.
