Looking for input. I've been in the investment industry for years (17), and I really am very good at what I do. I also played Division 1 college basketball on scholarships for 5 years and I have a laundry list of awards in basketball.

For some reason, I've been thinking very seriously about making a career change and going to coach basketball. I'm really having a hard time making that decision. I have so much basketball knowledge and I really enjoy being around kids, and I'm starting to feel that I can do better in the world by being a coach than predicting what the stock market will do, and what stocks are the best to buy. I think what's pulling me in that direction is that I see so many kids that aren't getting the guidance they need. I would want to coach in high school, and then college. My current career is very stimulating, and challenging mentally, but it tends to be a constant quest for money. I think the problem I'm having is that I view a lot of the guys that coach as guys that refused to grow up and leave the "game" behind. I don't mean to be insulting, but that's what I've always thought.

And yes, I have prayed extensively about it.

If anyone has any thoughts I would love to hear them. Thanks.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner, folks! You hit the nail on the head with this statement, my friend. There is so much more to coaching than sports. The effects of a coach can be life changing. If the Lord is pulling you in that direction, it's probably going to be more than a profession, it will be a ministry. :pray I am praying for you.

It seems to me that with your expertise in the financial industry you could continue to earn a top income even while you are coaching.

Seems you can have the best of both worlds.

If you really feel you would like to try coaching, why not offer your services as a volunteer on a part-time basis until you are sure what you want.

Then you can give up the idea or go full-time.

As for your thoughts that coaches are often people who refuse to grow up and leave the game behind.........who cares? They are doing something they love just as you would be doing something you love. Nothing to be ashamed of.

You are in a special position where you can have your cake and eat it.

Go for it!

If the Holy Spirit is truly convicting you to go do then what else do you need?
