Over half the birthing facilities in Ohio are being equipped with an RFID infant protection system placed on infants at birth to prevent them from being abducted from the hospital or from being given to the wrong mother.

You know, you can't help but wonder about the possiblity of an allergic reaction in some one that small :idunno I suppose they've thought of all that.

i'll admit i didn't read the article, but...RFID's are placed in the ID BANDS of the babies at the hospital i work at. no babies are chipped. just the bands, so that if someone tries to run off with one of the, an alarm sounds. its been done for years.

i'm going to guess that this is what its talking about.

This is an anklet and not injected so no allergic reaction. Probably just like a hospital bracelet but with a chip in it.

Whew, that's a relief. :panic I figured they must have started chipping them too since they've always put bracelets on babies. My mother still has mine--well she used to anyway. They used to say the hospital mix-up came when the bracelets fell off for one reason or another. I have heard stories that some of the mix-ups happen when several babies are being birthed at the same time and someone hastily mixes up the bracelets before they are ever even attached. Who knows? :lol2

The nurse in the labor room fills out the mom & baby ID bands and puts them on mom & baby immediately. There are also matching numbers on the ID bands that are written on the delivery chart. I remember reading about the mix-up in Russia (only the mother's first names were on the bands) but I think these days the hospital staff is a whole lot more careful. If bracelets were mixed up before they were even attached, mom would notice the wrong name.

relax people....but I think this is long overdue. I remember President Barltett mentioning to Toby that babies "come with those little lojack devices" in an episode of The West Wing. Is this really a bad thing?

Yes this is a GOOD thing, i have had 5 babies and they started this with my
3rd child... I didn't like that the last baby i had in Dec. they just put matching numbers on our bands -- no chip..

I think it is necessary in a hospital when having a baby!:thumb

can't somebody just cut off the id bracelet if they are going to kidnap the baby? :thinking
