WASHINGTON — New data from the Labor Department confirm what most middle-class Americans already know: Inflation is squeezing them.

As consumer prices rose by 4.1 percent last year, the highest rate since 1990, the prices of basic essentials such as food, gasoline and health insurance climbed far more steeply, explaining why so many Americans are telling pollsters that the economy is their chief concern.

Inflation is both a blessing and a curse. For those with assets, they appreciate in many instances, IE Housing...or used to be housing. People who have stayed put for thirty years, bought houses back then for $30,000 and now they are asking $175,000 for that same house. Not bad....if they can sell it at that price.

But for those on fixed income or who suffer a job loss, rising prices can be devestating.

One quick question for you astute financial folks. Housing prices are falling nationwide, right? Then why have there been no property tax adjustments to reflect the lower prices? :thinking

Again, the people suffer while the government prospers. Something is wrong with this picture.
