For when things go bad, what are the basic things to have in a dire situation?
Situations: disaster, invasion, political unrest, social decay, post-rapture (according to your belief)
Or is there a good survivalist website?

There's lots of good websites, depending on what it is you're wanting to prepare for. :nod Are you wanting to homestead, just survive a week or two until things return to normal, prepare to live off the wilderness? That answer will influence what you need and what you need to know.

Ladybug,
I didn't even think that far. Can you list some websites and maybe a top 10 of the basics?
I'm sensing that I need to be prepared for something.

Great link, Tom. Nice hat. A good hat goes a long way in the wasteland.

There are many good books from Paladin Press that deal with this subject. Which ones you pick depends on how thorough and how ruthless you intend to be. You should start with the ones that deal with picking or building a survivialist retreat, as it does not matter how many goods you stockpile if your neighbors find out you have them and loot your stores.
You will also have to decide whether or not this attitude fits your own philosphy, as Christian's may (should?) hesitate to shoot looters. Stealth is a better way to go.

I bought a slingshot for defense (it worked for David!) and I'm considering an air gun or a small cross bow.
Our defense plan is to put a quarantine sign on the door and board up the windows.

They have a survival forum that's pretty good, too.
This one's not bad either....http://www.minionreport.net/index.html

I don't remember how to put in a hyperlink; type "Captain Dave's Survival Site" into the search area and it should take you to the site. Everything from A to Z on this site. He has a rating for TEOTWAWKI (the end of the world as we know it) to show how close we are. Last I checked it was 77. Tells how to put together a bug-out bag, how to have a place to go if the worst happens; lots of articles. Can also buy things like survival gear and food. Has links to other sites. Or type Survival sites in seach area. Try 3days3ways.org. Red Cross. NOAA.
Hope that helps. I have been interested in survivalism for 40 years.
