WASHINGTON -- Any rebate included in an economic stimulus plan should include people who pay Social Security taxes, not just those who pay income taxes, a leading Democratic lawmaker said Sunday.

Families of four earning less than $24,900 a year would not get a rebate under the White House approach, said Chad Stone, chief economist at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a research group that focuses on how government programs affect the poor and middle class.

Great sound bite when pandering. The rebate is not a Soc. Sec. rebate, it is a rebate on income taxes. How many people have gotten rebates for something they never paid for? What he wants to do is buy more votes. If he wants the economy to do better, he should be talking about drastically cutting his spending, cutting our taxes and drilling for oil in the US. Not a one time pre-election vote buying scheme.

That's the "entitlement mentality" of our nation. If the government is giving something away, it had better be prepared to treat everyone equally (regardless of qualifying factors) or pay the price in the next election. :doh

By the time this plan gets through Congress, it's original intent will be flipped and every household earning over $25,000 a year will be disqualified and $450 million of PORK will be attached to it. Same old, same old!
