Has anyone read this challenging, provocative piece of philosophical writing by Pulitzer Prize winner Annie Dillard?

No, but I'm always on the lookout for good books.

Checked it out - couldn't get past the fact that the author needed to clean her bathroom.

Haha...I know exactly what you mean! That aside, it is one of the most challenging works (on various levels) I've ever read. Richly rewarding if you have the time and energy for it though...
