Does anyone know if you can use a different color cartridge to replace an empty, to keep printing? We live a long way from town, and my dark blue cartridge is empty, and I don't have one. But I do have a light blue. Will it work? I know the print quality will be bad, but I am just printing text. :idunno

It should work.
Not sure why you even need to put in a color cartridge if all you are printing is text.
Is the text black?

Yep, the text is black, but the printer tells me that I can print 'black only' just for awhile, and that if the empty cartridge is not replaced soon, then all printing will stop.

Print only what you have to, and replace the cartridge as soon as you are able.

Hoot, I have to say - you are much more fun to talk to than a tech support person in India! Thanks for being there for us all. :)

You can purchase generic ink cartridges from www.123inkjets.com (http://www.123inkjets.com). I order from there all the time. My Epson ink cartridges use to cost $27-35 per cartridge; I am/was able to get them here for $6-10 each. Huge huge savings. Not sure if that will help your problem or not but thought I'd toss it out there.

In the future, you might want to look into a laser printer. They're a little more expensive but the toner (ink) lasts for a long time. I got an old HP LaserJet 5L at a yard sale for $3 and a new toner cartridge for $20 online. It will print, I think 5000 pages of text or something like that.

I didn't know you could print w/o a color cart. thanks for the info. In Real Estate almost every thing we print is black. Not using a color cart will save some bucks.
