I just received this email from Beth, who is our "LTW in Church" leader. It reminds of the passage in James, which teaches that if anyone is a friend of the world he is an enemy of God. We cannot be friends with the world and be friends with God.

Not sure if you’ve seen this. Rick Warren went on Comedy Central and did a “schtick”. You have to see it to believe it. There are no words to describe how awful it is. I am just left with the image in my mind of Rick Warren chuckling and laughing. No matter what Steven Colbert said Rick Warren just laughed and laughed including Steven Colbert's portrayal of God as a character in a video game “who is some vengeful monkey throwing barrels at Super Mario”.

Yeah, I'm one of those evil conservitive christians too.

Sadly the pastor of the church I've been going to doesn't see any problem with Rick Warren. Also, the corporate heads are trying to find a way to compromise with the emergents. I think they want to ride the coattails of the church growth movement, as it does bring in a lot of people. They're willing to join with the conservative emergents, but not the liberal emergents, so they do at least recognize there are problems in the movement, but they're willing to compromise with it anyway. That's one of the emergent movements greatest weapons: compromise. It's a slow death of a thousand cuts that most just don't notice at first.

To me it's like saying they support conservative catholicism but not liberal catholicism. *shrug* I walked without a church for over a decade before this. If the Lord wants me to walk alone for the next decade I can do that too. It's sad really, they were one of the nicer churches I've been involved with.
