This is a wonderful teaching by Adrian Rogers called When Faith Seems to Fail
http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/Love_Worth_Finding/archives.asp?bcd=2007-5-17
This is a teaching on loving God in spite of our circumstances not because of them
He has another teaching available at this same link called:
The Coming Kingdom of Christ - which is equally powerful on having a mature faith.

^Amen! No matter our circumstances, we need to fear the Lord, and submit to Heaven. He is faithful! He will work it out, and give us the strength & grace to overcome. We need to pray the prayer He taught us to pray, daily:
OUR FATHER, WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME
YOUR KINGDOM COME, YOUR WILL BE DONE, ON EARTH AS IT IS HEAVEN
GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD
AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES
AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US
AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION
BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL
FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, THE POWER, THE GLORY
FOREVER AND EVER. AMEN.
This flowed out of me the other day, thinking on several Bible verses:
EVERY LIFE WHO SEEKS YOU FINDS YOU
EVERY LIFE CHOSEN IN YOU,
AND CALLED ACCORDING TO YOUR PURPOSE
IS FOUND
THERE IS NO GREATER LOVE
THEN WHAT IS FOUND IN YOU
OUR BLESSED HOPE, JESUS CHRIST
LAMB OF GOD WHO TAKES AWAY OUR SIN
BRIGHT AND MORNING STAR, THE ROOT AND THE OFFSPRING OF DAVID,
FIRST AND THE LAST
WE SEEK YOUR FACE AND WORSHIP YOU
IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH
ONLY WAY TO THE FATHER, ROCK, REDEEMER
WE LAY OUR LIVES DOWN BEFORE YOU
PROCLAIMING YOUR NAME BEFORE THE NATIONS
PREACHING FORGIVENESS AND REMISSION OF SINS
STARTING FROM JERUSALEM
AND DOING ALL YOU COMMAND US TO DO
LET YOUR KINGDOM COME
LET YOUR WILL BE DONE
ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN
COME QUICKLY, LORD JESUS, COME!

What helped and is continuing to help me in faith is learning about God. To know God, who he is by his own revealing via the word of God, is, I think, what will produce great faith in people. For that reason, I would suggest getting into theology as a means to accomplish that end. Here's a good website to start:

I would agree that reading Scripture is valuable to understanding the many things of God. However, I would kindly argue that one does not become intimate (i.e., closely acquainted with/close friends) with God by simply reading about Him.
Abraham, who is stated in Scripture as having "great faith" was not theologically trained. He did not posses a Bible. He did not read one word about God. He learned about God's faithfulness from his forefathers who orally passed down the story of how God faithfully provided for them in a wicked world (story of Noah). Abraham experienced God on a personal level. God tested Him, and Abraham passed - not because He was adept in theology but simpy because He trusted God.
Faith is grounded in trust. It's trusting God regardless of circumstances. It's trusting God without having all the answers. It's trusting God simply because He is God. If Abraham could please God with a simple faith, then why can't we? As with Abraham, it is by the testing of our faith - our simple trust in God - that we draw closer to Him.
We are so blessed to have the written accounts of God's interaction with His people. We are blessed that we can sit down and read the numerous stories of how God provided for His people when it seemed all hope was lost. We can read the testimony of saints of old and be encouraged that with God's help, we, too, can overcome.
I am pleased that learning theology is helping you in your quest to know more about the things of God. Yet, we should never let the quest for knowledge become our focus to gaining intimacy with God. God desires a relationship with us that is built upon a simple faith of trusting Him.
Grace and Peace to you.

Amen to that!! :nod
Asia your words are beautiful and so very true!
Walking daily with the Lord brings about faith.Every trial we come through, shows us we can trust God.When you realise He is there and provides in every situation, according to His perfect will. When we grasp His immenseness, His love and His power, this will bring us an ever deeper level of faith. When we look back at the road we have walked, and see that He never once left us or let us down, that His word was true, in every situation, then we can look forward with confidence and faith. The more you know Him, the easier it gets! Hallelujah! :pray

I agree with you 100%, we should read our Bibles and seek to apply His Word into our lives, in doing this He will prepare us for the tests that are to come in our lives. Then when the tests come and we just trust Him, we really get to know God intimately. I have just experience a test and I am facing another test in the very near future. I am not asking why, I am just trusting Him, but I have been drawn closer to Him and I know Him better now than all of the theology study about Him.
