With all of the struggles in my life, I have been particularly stressed about my urgent care center which we opened about a year ago. This first year has been really tough and to keep it going, I had to liquidate my retirement account which I had built up for the past 20 years. Well, after putting in my last money, I changed my prayers. I told God that I couldn't do it and the only thing that would keep it going was for Him to intervene. We had been running anywhere from 25 to 30 or so patients each day which is not quite breaking even. We debated and prayed about it and changed our hours from 10 to 10 each day to 8 to 8 each day. Well, over the last week or so our patient count has jumped from 35 to over 50. Yesterday we had our best day ever to date being 62 patients. If we can continue at this rate, my doctor partner will be able to quit working at the ER and come work at our clinic full-time, we can pay our bills on a timely basis and can even make some money in the process. My partner wants to work at our place full-time so he can also take time to go on medical mission trips. I know that we have a long way to go but this gives me hope. I know that God remains faithful even when we lose ours.
I lost my last company and with it my retirement, our income and my kid's college educations. Building this urgent care center was a calculated risk and I put everything I had into it. It is an overtly faith-based clinic. It is also my way to earn an income if the day comes when I cannot work anymore due to my disabilities. I am so excited now just because when we needed it, God stepped in. For those who think that it was the change of hours, that may have helped but in reality we are just seeing more and more patients throughout each day, especially during those times when we weren't seeing any patients before.
I am so thankful for God's provision in my life. You see, with the loss of my other company we had to make some drastic changes which included pulling as much equity out of our home so that we could pay off other bills. However, as good as it may look right now (after one week) I will gladly trade it all in when Jesus calls us home. Until then, we can only serve.
