I was tired of paying 12-15 bucks for a simple buzz cut.

At the hair cutting places around here they charge men and women the same
amount for a simple haircut even though the womans might take 30 minutes and the mans might take 5-10 minutes.
Nothing against women, I have 4 in the house...but my haircut was worth $5-$7 at most..

After buying a hair clipper with all the attachments for about $20 I am now saving that money and getting a haircut more often.
I do it myself, just put the #4 attachment on it and buzz it all off.:hat

My daughter trims the back and walllaaaa! Mr clean cut cost = $0.00

Not only do I enjoy the savings ,but often we didnt have $15 to spare for a haircut as often as I would like.

* This may not work for younger single men who need pretty hair.

Good for you! I've been doing exactly the same thing for 20+ years. DW trims the few strays in back. Good thing I look good with short hair.

Way to go No2Flesh! My father always cut our hair. He would take his little hair cutting bag to his father's house and cut his too. For years, I've let my husband cut mine and I cut his. And it sure does save some cash.:thumb

I got a Robocut a number of years ago when my son was young and I couldn't get him to sit still in a hair cutting place. He was scared and no amount of coaxing could calm him down. He thought the Robocut was a tool since I hooked it up to the ShopVac. And, when I'm busy and don't have time for a haircut, I use it on myself.

I do the same thing too. Once a week. I put on the 3/8" guard and cut away. Front to back, back to front, side to side. How can you mess it up? Wife does the back when needed. I spend $15-$20 on new cutters once a year.

Indeed! How can you mess up? Just keep going until hair stops falling off. :thumb

Wish I would have thought of this long ago.
Glad to know many of yall are doing the same thing.
I used to go 6 months between haircuts just to save the money.

Dont forget the time involved, seems like haircuts are as popular as oil changes
so there is always a 30 minute to 1 hr wait.
I will never pay for a haircut again.

I know what y'all mean, too. I hate getting a hair cut due to the wait time and the cost ($15). I usually get it once a month or every 6 weeks or so. I don't own clippers and I wouldn't trust myself to cut it NOR my wife :aha

She might do ok, but I don't want to take that chance. I cut it myself once when I was 16 and I was so embarrassed at school the next day--I had to go all day at school and get to the barber after school. If I were buzzing it all the way, like you're saying, I could probably do it myself but I normally get the back cut starting with a 1 guard on bottom and tapered as it goes up, getting a little longer. I long for the price I paid when I was a teenager and the barber I went to charged $7 (I went there from probably 1992-1997 and I think it went up to $8 by the time he sold it and new people were there and I stopped going). I go to a place called Big League Barbers now since they're close by. But good for you, No2Flesh and the others that are able to save money on this! :thumb

When I retired in 2002, and we moved to our high cost area, I wanted to spend only the bare minimum the first year to establish a baseline of money needed for minimum needs. That included cutting my own hair. I do my own, and use mirrors to help with the back side, tapering included. I use the # 1,2,3, and 4 attachments. I also do my children's hair. As time went on I learned that the braver I was the better the results. After the year of living lean was up, I chose to continue cutting hair because not only was I saving money, it was quicker to do myself... I never liked having to take a number and sit and wait... and I now avoid getting the occasional haircut that I can't stand. I at least know how I want my hair cut. Once a year there is a group in town that gives veterans a free hair cut. I used to take advantage of that but don't even bother with that anymore.
