I want to get a laptop for my bible study. I've never had one and I don't know who makes the better computer. One friend tells me to get a Dell and another says get a Mac, and I really like the Sony Vaio. I want to buy the Logos software, possibly the scholars edition and I would like advice about which computer would best support it. And to be perfectly honest I'll probably install some games also. :) Any advice on the best computer or even bible software is hugely appreciated.

I recommend a Dell also but make sure you get at least 2gb of memory and the mobile 8600M dedicated graphics card.
You can check out notebook info here.

As for software when you buy a new system it is always a good time to buy an OEM version of Microsoft Office/SBE for around $300 at the same time.
As for Bible software I like the free or donation software at http://www.e-sword.net
If you go with the Logos software check that they have a version that works with Windows Vista operating system. Dell and other places still offer Windows XP as an option for the operating system.
I am aware that Vista Service Pack 1 is to be released in early March so perhaps hold off until computer sellers have all their systems loaded with the new service pack.
Just my opinions so hope this helps.

The real issue is the kind of games you want to play. What did you have in mind?

...make sure you get at least 2gb of memory and the mobile 8600M dedicated graphics card. I agree about 2GB being a minimum for the memory, especially if you plan on using Vista. For a gaming machine a dedicated (not shared) video card is also advisable.

Have a care about the hard drive - SATA 5400 rpm minimum. Sony has snuck out 4200 rpm drives earlier.

MAC! :yeah
LOL! I have always used mac- they are the most stable laptops out there and they won't be outdated in a year! Also, you have a very slim chance of getting any viruses... I use a MacBook Pro, but I have many graphics programs and large files. You could get by with a regular MacBook:
* 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 1GB memory
* 80GB hard drive1
* Combo drive
Check out Apple's website... well worth the money. This machine will last you a LONG time and they have a great warranty. They replaced one of my laptops after 3 years because of a hard drive problem.

Greetings and I wish you well on your purchase. I have been running the Logos Libronix package, Quick Verse 8, and Pradis Bible software for years. Though I have a newer laptop, my older one which is a Windows XP and 512 MB of memory runs all of the above software just fine. Personally, my laptop is for Bible software, internet, and Microsoft Office so even though I "only" have 1 GB of Ram and a 100 GB hard drive, this is more than sufficient for me. You can always spend more money for a laptop but unless you are a gamer or other type of graphics intensive person, even a modest laptop will do you well. If you are planning on a MAC, just make sure that you can run any type of Windows OS in order to run the Bible software packages listed above. Feel free to email or message for further questions. Blessings,
Don

I run a mac, I love my mac, my mac is my friend; but for what you want to do I wouldn't suggest a Mac, I would suggest a Dell or Hp. I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend. If you want to get something that is going to play any game out there I would agree to get a dedicated graphics card and 3 gigs of Ram. You need 2 GB's of Ram to really run vista because of the huge amount of processes running in the background, than another gig to run everything else.
