quit working..the computer says we have no sound hardware..yes I do..I have built in speakers and a sound bite..I hear a beep when I click the mouse after getting the printer/hardware window up....I'm wondering if a virous got in the computer and killed my sound bite..have been told that's unlikely..I have norton..and it has detected nine virouses..have been told I may have to reinstall windows..not a problem..but I have music I don't want to lose..thought about getting a new hard drive and installing on that..then put my music on that hard drive..I have two hard drives in my computer..if I have to get a new sound bite..I guess I'll have to take it to the computer doctor..although I have built a computer..that was years ago and I don't really remember what goes where..the hard drive is much easier to install for me.. after all..who could miss seeing where the hard drive goes or what it looks like right?....anyone have any ideas?..Please!!!!!...help!.. help!... help!... help!... help!...:panic

Katt, do you have a little speaker icon in the system tray? (Bottom right corner by the clock)? If so, double click it. A window will open that has some audio controls. Let me know if any of the "mute" boxes are checked. If the one on the left in the Master section is checked, uncheck it, click OK and try again.

what operating system, sound card do you have? might try un installing the re installing the driver for the sound card.its also possible the sound card did go bad.i had a creative labs soundblaster live 5.1 die on me once so it does happen sometimes but re installing the driver for the soundcard does help sometimes.

built in speakers and sound bite? not sure what you mean with that but im assuming you mean built in sound card....usually the case with newer computers......open up your computer and there should be a sticker on the motherboard or atleast a company name of the manufacture of the board. Norton found the viruses but doesnt seem like the infected your computer at all...sounds like the driver is bad.....find out the maker of the ur motherboard and find out the model ....google it like "manufacturer + model number + sound driver" or something to that effect. Download the new drivers and try to install....reboot after its done...and give it a try. If that doesnt work you may have a bad sound card
