I have seen on the news that they are saying that the daily baby bottles used for infants and toddlers contains Bisphenol A and releases toxic chemicals when heated which could cause cancer and/or infertility.

My two year old still uses these bottles and has been doing so since 10 months of age. I don't know if I should get rid of them (that will be hard). Is there any truth to this?

Here are some articles.

There is definetly truth to this, What I suggest is to switch to glass baby bottles or SIGG or Klean Kanteen reusable metal water bottle. We jut bought the SIGG bottles from Whole Foods and the kids LOVE them.

In the future just look for the sippy cups ro bottles that are free of harmful chemicals.

While at whole foods I noticed they sell this brand of baby bottles without those yucky chemicals (I forgot the name of the bottles though)

Wow, 2? I will have to look into the Whole Foods for Antsy's baby to get a bottle (if she needs to use one.) We took our kids bottles away on their 1st birthday. They were on cups by age 7 months learning to sip through the straws.

I was afraid for their teeth and sucking on the bottles.

So it's only a problem when they're exposed to heat?

I was hoping to not need to store milk/warm it... so I shouldn't have much an issue unless we have to move to the bottle for that.

I was thinking more along the lines of using a bottle for water, (watered down) tea and juice...

If we do any bottle feeding, I'll likely express what we need for the bottle so "daddy can feed the baby".. I'll start looking around here to see if people still make glass bottles.

That is so messed up that we have all these chemicals in so many things that babies and children use these days.

I checked online and the MAM ("mom") brand has glass bottles on Amazon.de... so if anyone is in Germany and needs glass bottles (like me), that's one place to get them.

I checked Amazon.com and there are MUCH better results and a larger selection (Evenflo, Dr Brown, Momo baby, Born Free..)

I dunno what kind of bottle nipples everyone's looking for.. so you're kinda on your own for that one. :)

ants, the problem also lies in washing them. When you use heated water (like a dishwasher that gets really hot to sterilize) or an actual sterilizer, the chemicals are released and can remain on the bottle itself just waiting for the fluid you are giving to your child to come along.

Best to just avoid them all together when there are great alternatives. :thumb

Fun, I kinda figured that. I had a feeling bottles would be a 'wash by hand only' thing.. :sigh

Why is it baby things have to seem like so much trouble? LOL

Thank goodness bottles are only a short lived part of their little lives though!

I used glass Evenflo bottles and NUK nipples.

My SIL used glass. I had a hard time finding them so I used the disposable ones. Honestly the plastic ones never looked clean..

A friend of mine got a case of the enfamil glass bottles and just reused them...Not sure if that was safe but...:idunno

With my luck, my son refused the bottle. He stopped taking paci's at 4 months old, and was a straight up boob monster! lol Its a good thing that I was, and still am a SAHM.
