Biofuel crops may worsen global warming:Study

Converting land for biofuel crops results in major carbon emissions and actually worsens the problem of global warming instead of mitigating it, says a new study.

The study by Nature Conservancy, an organization working to protect ecologically important lands and waters, will be published in Science magazine later this month.
"Our study found that any biofuel that causes clearing of natural ecosystems will increase global warming," Joe Fargione, a scientist for The Nature Conservancy, told CTV.ca.
"This is the first study to fully account for the effects of land clearing."

Not so sure about the global warming part, but anytime we do major messing with God's creation, there's bound to be an effect.

There's just no possible way for crops to produce enough fuel to take the place of crude oil in this country.:doh It's already proving to be a fiasco just trying. The price of corn keeps going up. Think about it. We in the south are already experiencing an exceptional level drought. If America ever did become dependent on corn, soybeans,etc for energy what on earth would they do when drought strikes?:idunno

Yes, his scientific studies prowess is well known as well. Also, his documentary editorial expertise is beyond question, as are his film making skills. Just a well-balanced kind of guy.

Just this evening on the news, there is a guy that runs his own car off of pond water, I think, or some part of its change from bacteria, with no changes to the stock vehicle. It runs just as well as gas, yet runs cleaner. Quite a discovery, I think.

I hope someone who works in the energy field takes note of it.

One fellow I know (a genius) mentioned this afternoon that he thinks it's not a bad thing that this is happening over the oil supply, because something pressing has to happen to force us to look elsewhere for energy. If this had not happened, we would probably still be kicking back and cranking out SUV's with no thought of economy or change in our resources.

All it takes is an all-out war, and our oil supply gets cut off.
