This verse has always confused me. I hope someone can please explain it to me.
Exodus 4:24
"At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses, and was about to kill him."
I can't figure out why the Lord was going to kill Moses:preach. Am I missing something? It could be of little importance and not for us to know. I'm just curious if anyone knows. Thanks for any replies.:thumb

This might help:

Now God said, "Tell Pharaoh this, Israel is my son, my firstborn, now let him go and worship me, and if you refuse to do it, God's gonna wipe out your son, your firstborn."
And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met Moses, and sought to kill him (Exd 4:24).
Hard to understand. The Lord says, "Go to Egypt". Moses is going to Egypt and God meets him in the inn and starts to kill him. What happened? I don't know; maybe he had a seizure. It is interesting his wife knew exactly what was going on. I think that probably Moses and his wife had a dispute over the kids. You see, God had commanded that the Hebrew children should be circumcised on the eighth day. That circumcision was a mark of the covenant relationship of these people with God. They were to be people who were walking after the Spirit, not after the flesh, thus the cutting away of the flesh. It was a symbolic action by which these people were identified as God's people. The mark of their covenant relationship with God.
Now when Moses went to Midian, married the daughter of Jethro the high priest that was there, Zipporah, when he had his son Gershom, he probably said, "Now we need to circumcise."
"Oh you're not gonna mutilate my child." And probably resisted Moses, and Moses again was, you know, he was so broken by his failure that he just let it go. He didn't circumcise his son. Rather than getting in a hassle with the old woman, he just said, "Well all right." You know, a meek guy, and just let it pass. Yet she knew when God met Moses and started to kill him, and just by what method, I don't know, the scripture doesn't say, but she immediately knew what was going on.
Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and threw it at Moses' feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband you are to me (Exd 4:25).
In other words, she was still angry about the thing. She went in; she gave in on it but showed the bitterness that she had concerning the thing.
So the Lord let Moses go: and again she said, A bloody husband you are, because of the circumcision (Exd 4:26).
So here Moses was going to lead God's covenant people out of the land, and he had not even fulfilled that covenant mark in his own children, his own sons. Because of Moses' failure, God was just impressing on him that He meant business. Moses' wife suddenly realized that God meant business but she still sort of blamed Moses for it and seemed to be angry with him.

GOD ALWAYS MEANS BUSINESS...today is the same...either one is IN JESUS..or is in HELL...hard to accept??? well,He said it ...."if you are NOT with ME you are against ME''...so the conclusion is simple....it costed GOD'OWN SON LIFE to SAVE us from SIN DEATH and HELL,do we puny human beings DARE to reject HIM???we are choosing DEATH...ETERNAL DEATH...so..lets not accuse GOD of being unfair...whoever DIES without JESUS will DIE a second ETERNAL DEATH ( separation) in HELL and then for ever,FOR EVER in THE LAKE OF FIRE....
You see,GOD IS NOT RESPECTOR OF PERSON neither uses FAVORITISM....one can be a MOSES or the president of USA or THE POPE or a KING or QUEEN or a humble WAITER or ROAD SWEEPER....one ends in HELL FOE EVER WITHOUT JESUS.....
Lets understand that and TURN in REPENTANCE to HIM and GET SAVED until there is TIME.....

Did God Want To Kill Moses?
Ask a Bible Teacher
Q. Do you know why God tried to kill moses in Exodus 4?
A. Exodus 4:24 is a controversial verse that scholars have had difficulty translating since the name of Moses never appears there. The King James simply says God was about to kill "him". The debate is over whether "him" refers to Moses or his son. In reading the entire passage (Vs.24-26) it appears that the son was most likely the object of God's wrath, but we're not told why. When Zipporah circumcised him, it brought the son under the covenant and therefore God's protection.
In any case, God cannot act arbitrarily and would have had no reason to kill Moses, especially after just commissioning him to deliver the Israelites from their bondage in Egypt. Hebrews 11:23 hints that Moses' parents knew that he was to be Israel's deliverer from the time he was born. If so, then God's hand was upon him from the womb, making an even stronger argument against God killing him.

One must never take God lightly.....or for granted. Yes He is abba (daddy).... but He is also God. I think Moses learned a valuable lesson that day. Perhaps if more Christians read the OT and took it seriously.......
