The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New
Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress
for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number, what does
it mean?

A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528.

B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington , D.C .. HELLO!!! .. Are all your calculators broken??

Consider all the many taxes we are liable for through a life-time....

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago,
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the
world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened? Can you spell 'politicians!'

And I still have to 'press
1' for English.

I hope this goes around THE
USA at least 1000 times

$1 billion is about $3 from every man, woman, and child in the United States.

ridiculous! Where's my 3 bucks?
How about sending some of that $ to Houston where a majority of the poorer Katrina victims ended up?

$1 billion is about $3 from every man, woman, and child in the United States. So the $250B for New Orleans would be $750 from every man, woman and child...

Actually, the 250 billion would simply be borrowed and added onto the national debt. By observing our leaders, it is apparent that the national debt is on no consequence so, just keep adding to it. :)

In all fairness though, federal funds pour into every natural disaster area in the United States and even other countries. Also, not every citizen in the Katrina area would get the money, most of it would go into repairing damaged dikes, rebuilding roads, power stations, water supply systems, bridges .... all sorts of infrastructure. Katrina is just one of the biggest natural disasters to happen to this country so it gets the most attention.

Consider all the many taxes we are liable for through a life-time....The problem with a list like this, in the context of an e-mail complaining about the federal government spending $250 billion in New Orleans, is that most of these taxes are STATE taxes.

The ones in Blue are purely federal taxes; the ones in Red are purely state taxes. The ones in Black can be both state and federal...

Wow.

What do you think of the "Fair Tax," Old??? Is that synonomous with the "Flat Tax"???:scratch:doh:scratch:doh:scratchWell, for starters, the "Fair Tax" would not eliminate anything on that list in red or black.

I think the "Fair Tax" is a load of bunk, personally. Totally unrealistic. And it would bring about a massive illegal underground economy, and would be a substantial tax increase on the lower 90% of wage earners in this country.

It would eliminate the underground system of hiding assets elsewhere in the world, as it would tax shelters in general, you spend, you pay, how much more fair could that be? It will never happen because opponents will always be able to win when they play the class warfare game.

The "progressive" tax system in anything but.
