FYI: PBS has a special on Mormonism right now... can't tell if it's negative or positive. It may just be the history, it's part 1 of 2.

If you saw the part about the massacre I'm sure the Mormons never wanted this history to get out.

Did you see on the first part of the series where the Elder Hinckley stated the whole of Mormonism rests on the belief that Joseph Smith actually met, face to face, physically, in the flesh with GOD, the Father and Jesus? He went on to say that if that didn't happen, the whole Mormon faith falls apart and is worthless.

Well, first, I was reminded of Exodus 33:20 when Moses was upon Mt. Sinai to intercede for the nation of Israel... and he asked to see God's glory. God replied back no you cannot, "Man shall not see Me and live." HE didn't say 'YOU shall not see me,' nor did he say 'Moses shall not see me,' HE said, "MAN shall not see me and live."

If Joseph Smith lived to tell about the event, either 1. He was lying; or 2. Moses was lying about what God said; or 3. God was lying. We know God cannot lie, so let's toss that one right away. We also know Moses was fit to receive the oracles of God... he was certainly chosen to perform many signs and miracles in the name of God and for HIS purpose. We also know Moses was about as holy as a man can get since his face shone from being near/speaking with God. I dare say, Moses' life and reputation was much more honorable than the life and reputation of Joseph Smith. J.S. was into many questionable practices such as peep stones, treasure hunter, etc... and originally, his story was one of meeting an angel... which eventually, as the years went by grew into God, the Father, and Jesus. If J.S. actually saw God the Father, he should have died right there, and could not have written the story.

The second part about that alleged encounter that bothers me, is that if J.S. really did see Jesus in his back yard woods, THAT must've been the Second Coming!... But, alas, scripture tells us that the next time Jesus steps onto the ground, it will be on the Mt. of Olives... not in Joseph Smith's backyard.

Keep in mind, Elder Hinckely was (he died Jan 2008) the HEAD GUY at the "Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints." This wasn't some flunky, or some guy with an axe to grind about the LDS church... it was their most senior "elder."

Well, if you are going to talk about this to a Mormon, get a copy of the DVD first and see it for yourself (don't take my word for it). And Please don't throw it in their faces... ask them about the comments made. Be sincere. Use what you know of the Bible to logically call the lost sheep into the fold.
Remember to love the person.

Thanks for a handy witnessing tool when the suited ones come a knocking. Jesus could use them in His army:

When I was just 15, I was able to debate a lot of issues with the mormons and their faith using the Word. It got them to the point where they shut up and walked out of my house (the door to door mormons). They claimed that those same scriptures are always being used to contradict their beliefs. Well then, that should be a sure sign that what they believe is made up of lies. :tsk

Really could have used Exodus 33:20 when talking to them, though. *shoot*

In Exodus 33:18 Moses asked to see God's Glory
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.

Moses can see God's Glory, but, not the full force of His Glory, in Revelation 1:16,
16 ... His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.
This is why Moses can see the back side of Jesus facing away from Moses.

Exodus 33:20
20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

I saw that on PBS too. They are soooo weird. It was about their history, but also about their present lives. How odd it was when they show THREE WIVES preparing dinner in the kitchen, and they all give the husband children so they reproduce like there's no tomorrow raise even more Mormons.

Well, now that you've given us the good gossip...

The folks with multiple wives you ought to be concerned about most are in Islam. Mormons need our prayer, our witness, and correction in doctrine. Muslim need the same, but between the two I would say Mormons are benign. Saying they are "soooo weird" like accomplishes like nothing. Like we ought to be constructive, and like do something else. Do you go door-to-door and witness like they do?

Is the DVD the one from PBS? I could only catch snippets of the show with kids running around! I thought it looked very interesting.
