God has gifted my daughter and me with a couple of wonderful moments!!

This past weekend was Solo & Ensemble Festival for high school band students in our district. My daughter scored a "1" on her solo, and she and her friend scored a "1" on their duet. :yeah She gets sooooo nervous doing this (you play a piece in front of a judge that scores you) - this is the first time she made the "1" ranking. This means that she can move on and perform at the State Festival.

Yesterday, the students at her school received their paperwork for completing next year's class schedule. Listed on the paperwork is the student's ranking. Her rank? 1st out of 431 students, with a GPA of 4.401 out of 4.0 (she takes honors/advanced placement classes so gets extra points)!!!!!!! She was so excited when I picked her up from school. For now, we can "legally" call her the valedictorian of her class (10th grade). :yeah

Thank you, God, for giving this child smarts, motivation, and a good work ethic!!

from your avatar I guess she's a pretty good shot with a cream pie, too! What instrument does she play so well?

She plays the flute and is second chair in Wind Ensemble.

She's such a hard-worker and I'm so happy for her - she was so excited!

Thanks! I am guessing your school had a small band program? My daughter's school has a very strong band program of about 235 students (mine didn't have a band, period) - 2nd chair is very good. It means that of 29 flutes in the whole band program (there are four levels of bands), she is #2 - and she worked hard to get there. I still feel as if something is missing within me - I never had any musical training but have always loved music - there was no money when I was a kid, and then I started a family.....My younger daughter plays the electric guitar. Even though money is tight, I have promised them that as long as I can pay the bills, they will have lessons (it's going on 2 1/2 years now). I was never able to do it, so I will do it for them as long as I can.

thats great keep providing for them and they will cherish it forever. I still love playing my flute. Don't give up on yourself. My hubby is learning the guitar, My son is honking around on the saxaphone, all three daughters try to play the piano. One daughter can play by ear really well. God gives us all gifts, Now finding something to do with it can sometimes be hard, I am still trying to find out what God wants me to do with my artwork. I guess i am just waiting for the right author and publisher.haha.

Artwork sounds great. Do you sketch? Paint? I've said a prayer that God sends some kind of opportunity your way.

thank you for your prayers. My artwork is mostly ink and markers. I'll have some pictures up soon.
