Will there be such a thing as gender in Heaven?

Question: "Will there be such a thing as gender in Heaven?"

Answer: Matthew 22:30 possibly speaks of people after the resurrection not participating in marriage--they become "like the angels." However, this does not mean people are genderless. The masculine, not neuter, pronoun is used many times to describe angels (and HE was like...HIS appearance was like, etc.). So there is no real indication that the angels are genderless beings.

There is nothing in the Bible that indicates people will lose or change sex in eternity. In the book of Revelation (chapters 21-22), it seems that God is making things not just like they were in the Garden of Eden, but even better. Remember that gender is not bad--it is actually a good thing. God created Eve because Adam needed someone to complement him. Marriage (impossible without different genders), the model relationship between a man and a woman, is a picture of Christ and the church. The church is the bride and Christ is the groom (Ephesians 5:25-32).

Although it is not explicitly taught in the Bible, it seems most likely that people retain their gender after death. Our genders are a part of who we are. Gender is more than physical--it is part of our very nature and part of the way we relate to God. Therefore it seems that gender will be perfected and glorified in eternity. It is also worthy to mention that Jesus retained his gender after His death and resurrection.

We will have no need of reproductive organs or anything like that
May not have a need for them, but we may still have them. Look at the angels who kept not their first estate. Aren't they the angels from Genesis 6:2...

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

Also God created physical intimacy not just for procreation.

One thing I have heard once was that demons raped women and they became pregnant which brought out big and strong people. If demons were once angels, then all angels would have the reproductive organs as well. I have often wondered if we will have a need for them in heaven. God's love is ever growing and likes to continously expand. So maybe we will be expanding population? Just a thought. Any thoughts?

That is a good question. The Scripture was mentioned that we will be like the angels, and as far as I know, the Scriptures don't support the existance of female angelic beings (only male angelic beings).

We never encounter any female angels in Scripture, but that does not mean they weren't waiting in the wings for their turn on stage. Maybe it's because Earth is a combat zone and God does not believe in having females in combat. Or maybe there are no female angels. When God is silent, maybe we should be too.
:yeah
Arguments from silence are dangerous, as you can read anything into a silence that you want. And on this subject, the Word is silent.

^A point well taken. However, we are safer to assume that there are no female angelic beings since Scripture doesn't mention one, then believing they exist unmentioned. And, just because they are not mentioned, doesn't necessarily mean the Scripture is "silent" on the matter. The Scripture may just not mention a female angelic being, because there are no angelic beings to mention. We can't just assume "silence" either. Ya know?

Interesting discussion... :)

I hope you are right about that. It would be a shame to have functional organs that were never used, or vestigal organs that have no use.
:panic
The physical intimacy we know in Heaven may, repeat may, be even greater than that we have known on Earth.

Don't say that! Modern medical science indicates the female is the "default" gender for the human race! Although when you put it in that light, it may be part of God's perfect plan......
