Whether she used the right big special words or not, lisalisa made some valid observations about key differences between Jonah and Jesus.
Sure, there are similarities in the Jonah and Jesus narratives, as you've noted. There are also some dissimilarities, mostly involving Jonah's attitude, his stubbornness, and his temper tantrum when he doesn't get to go and smite the people of Ninevah afterall.
He expected God to smite them, they were not Jews and he could not understand God was extending His love to all. even cattle

Funny you should mention Jonah...
Yesterday, a guest speaker at our church mentioned that Jonah 3:1 was one of his favorite verses. Reason? Because the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time. He got a second chance even though he didn't deserve it. Neither do we.

I'm so happy the Lord used Jonah to speak about how He would be in the earth for three day, but would rise again. I grew up in a church where the validity of Jonah was questioned. As a kid I thought it was just a story--not necessarily a real person. It was all symbols and allegory.
Praise the Lord I grew up...and am growing.

It is interesting that God so arranged the affairs of men ... so as to create a "type" ... the purpose of the "type" being as Joel points out ... to "mold" a story ... make a "pattern" the purpose of which was to communicate God's Great Plan ... otherwise known as the Eternal Decree ... to you and me.
Kind of breath taking really.
The Old Testament ... actually even the pre-Testament Scripture is absolutely chuck full of Types. Most all of them of Christ.
No they weren't Christ ... :hehee
So Jonah... a real man ... when on this great escapade to avoid and then to save Nineveh. The great fish and all ... And what was God's purpose? Well two fold, the first being Jonah, the Ninevehites and all ... but the longer probably greater purpose? To give cause to reveal to all generations this prophecy of the Messiah. :preach
These "Types" ... and again there are many many of them ... are so rich in prophecy I believe we will never exhaust their revelation until the Lord returns.
Good to read you again young Joel. I missed your sharp eye.

Basically, a type is prophetic. It always represents something (or someone) in the future.
The anti-type is the fulfillment of what that type predicted. It is the prophecy realized.
I'm scratching my head here.
If a 'type' is prophetic and the 'anti-type' is the fulfillment, does that mean Christ is prophetic and the Anti-Christ the fulfillment?

I'm asking about how you are seeming to imply that the Anti-Christ is the fulfillment of Christ. Not sure if you're being serious, poking fun, or potentially being blasphemous. Just a question.:hat
From my understanding of the Anti-Christ, he is every way wants to mimic the Lord...but he is a fake. Satan is the counterfeit father, the Anti-Christ is the counterfeit son, and the False Prophet is the counterfeit Holy Spirit.

Somebody is ultra-sensitive this evening. It was meant as a play on words.

Not ultra-sensitive. However, when it involves my Lord & Saviour I am unapologetically sensitive. I was just asking a question about what you meant.:hat
