It really is sad to hear someone speak this way. We should pray for Charles. I remember a time when I was lost, I had no clue. May God open his eyes to the truth.:candle

Speaking purely on a secular level, Sir Charles is a pretty cool guy, and often has done a respectable job of speaking his mind over topics that almost invite some controversy.
But, Sadly, his comments reflect the all too convenient and widely promulgated myth that the Bible says Christians "shouldn't judge anybody, because it says to 'judge not,'" etc.
The Holy Scriptures are loaded with clear denunciations of evildoers and sinful activity, "judgements," if you will.
Many of his mindset, who sometimes conveniently invoke the milquetoast weenie mischaracterization of Jesus, as something conservatives hypocritically ignore, either don't know, or want to know the complete picture of our Lord's stern warnings against evildoers and sinful behavior.
When he says "Judge not, lest ye be judged," reading the entire passage makes it clear that he does not say we shouldn't judge, but rather
not to judge if oneself is not prepared to be judged by the same criteria.
Even that proper understanding of scripture is a challenge we all need to continually be cognizant of, but it is
not
saying anything of the sort that Sir Charles mistakenly regurgitates.

How can being against Gay marriage be considered Judgmental?
Edit: Scratch that I see how he thinks that way now. I don't share his point of view though.

Well, dissecting this somewhat, I think he is somewhat correct in voicing the fact that 'conservative' politicians have shamelessly pandered to Christians when there hasn't been a lot of solid evidence for their own convictions. Karl Rove was on the record as pandering to the evangelical voter base and ridiculing the intelligence of such people. I don't hold for a minute that George Bush is anything near a devout Christian and it has been overplayed for his support and end designs.

I agree. Barkley's got a good point and maybe it would be a good thing for us Christians to reason together about just what it means to be a conservative.

I don't watch basketball, so I don't know who this guy is, but he sounds incredibly ignorant and uninformed. Perhaps he should consider taking his own advice; he blathers on about conservatives being judgmental because most oppose abortion and homosexuality when he spoke as judge and jury in his whole diatribe.
Silly...I don't even know why the media thinks the general public cares about what celebrities think. He needs to stay on the basketball court and keep his opinions to himself, at least until he gets a clue.

Agreed. This is the basis for proper judgment. If you read Matt 23, Jesus RAILED the pharisees up and down; and of course, He was without sin.
But it is true that those who are ignorant of the truth will cast stones...uh....BOULDERS... at Christian beliefs.
Finally, Jesus did say:
(John 7:24) "Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment."
