Holding Pattern

We got this idea from other friends, so we can't take credit, but it has revolutionized our spending habits...
Whenever we go a day without spending a dime we put a gold star on the calendar. Our friends do stickers because they have children. Heather had a marker that happened to be a gold star.
It is a very simple thing, almost laughable, but seeing the gold stars add up on the calendar became a motivation. Now when either of us has the urge to buy something non-essential we reconsider to get the gold star.
We use the calendar the holds all of our other essential information...the gold stars also stand out and make our effort quite visible. It also makes the calendar looks quite interesting...
