I have posted before about finding a new church I was wondering if anyone here belongs to an "Assembly of God" church. I visited one these past 2 sundays and I wanted some outside opinions.
Thanks

You might want to do a google search for the articles of faith, or doctrinal beliefs, that are held by the general assembly. That will tell you a lot. I've done this before when wondering what a 'new' (new to me) denomination believed and I've learned a lot.

Hi, I have used the AG website many times, it has a lot of info.
This is a list of their 16 fundamental beliefs.

I used to attend an AG church but there were too many of what we agreed to call "gray" areas that we could not agree on and I decided to look elsewhere.

I belong to a great AOG church. Our pastor is so good. But I think that there can be differences church to church. Our pastor has no problem going to the board and talking to them about issues and he has no problem with people coming to him either. As with a lot of churches I think a lot depends on the individual leadership, not just denomination.

many differences, like in baptist churches. Some teach that unless you speak in tongues you aren't saved. MANY - if not all believe you can lose your salvation.

I belong to First Assembly of God. (I was raised in a Presbyterian Church)
We have a wonderful pastor.
I wouldn't go any where else.
Pray about it and God will lead you to the right church.

I was brought up in a Assembly of God and miss it terribly. They really know how to worship, I miss that part. The chuch I go to now is more of a bible study sunday. Only a few songs and not many even sing along. I would love to go back to a Assembly of God, but there is not one close enough to me to attend.

I would run away as fast as you can. Besides the Brownsville silliness that invaded a few years ago, many of the AG's are into the blab and grab gospel, and I could tell you HORROR stories about AG pastors that get away with embezzelemt, adultery, molestation, etc....and even the Legal dept of the AG covers it up. If you can't trust the leadership, and you can't trust the theology, why go there.

Honestly, I am sure you could find anybody in any type of denomination with these characteristics. Each church is different! My fil is an assembly of God Minister, and he certainly doesn't fit into your broad sweeping characterization.
each church is different.....check it out. I have never attended an AOG where "Blab and Grab" was practiced.
Great worship.....and some of the most praying people that I have ever met.

I loved our AG church. Like twosox said, it had great worship and no funny business with teaching and such.
