'Here we go again. Same old stuff again.'

Emergent Church equals

2 Timothy 4:3-4

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Well, Brian, let me tell ya a secret.

God is sovereign and you are not. God's will is to be done. Not yours. God is God alone. You are not. You are a creature, that btw, God created.

Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church. You are not.

And Hal is right in 'The Late Great Planet Earth' The Left Behind scenario is scriptural and will happen soon!

Q:When I think about the "crisis literature" of popular American Christianity in the past, a lot of it had an alarmist, conspiratorial feel – think The Late Great Planet Earth. Your approach seems different.

A:I couldn't think of anything more different from my book than The Late Great Planet Earth, which represents the "left behind" eschatology. That basically says the world is hopeless, the toilet has been flushed, and it's all going down. That God has no hope for the earth. ... God just wants to destroy it and extract the souls out of it. I know that view is popular, but I think it is deadly wrong and destructive and dangerous.

I think our Jewish friends have a much more biblical understanding when they speak of tikkun olam, which means "the healing of the earth." At the center of the Christian religion is a person, Jesus, and at the center of Jesus is the message of the kingdom of God. I believe that message is a lot more like tikkun olam than it is like Left Behind.

Q:And Jesus was, after all, Jewish.

A:Exactly. I really think this eschatology of abandonment and despair is like a cancer that has gotten into Christian theology. It's deterministic. It makes it sound like God has the future all filmed, like a movie that's in the can. ... So now the film is just playing and we're stuck.I believe that God invites us to participate in the pursuit of justice and in the expression of compassion and in the work of reconciliation. :ohno:tsk

BEWARE:

This man is preaching ANOTHER gospel - NOT the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Galatians 1:5-7 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

No Other Gospel
6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.

Well, atheists and other 'church' goers are going along with his thinking. Church must change in order to live on. May the strongest win kind of thing. Ugh..totally wrong.

Jesus is the Head of the Church. He leads the Church for He is the Bridegroom and He will marry His Bride one day soon.

I'm w/ya, Jan. This guy and the emergent church drives me nuts!! Ezekiel 33 instructs us to be Watchmen, and I think that is what most of us are about when we post this stuff. Just trying to get the 'sheeple' to WAKE UP!! :preach

There is so much DANGER in this stuff. Don't people realize that they are on a slippery slope? Obviously these "leaders" and the guys that write these books know exactly what they are doing. Its the sheeple I am terrified for! We will pray but isn't there something else we can do????

I couldn't think of anything more different from my book than The Late Great Planet Earth, which represents the "left behind" eschatology.

That's because Hal Lindsey based his book on what was in God's Word. Not Man's. :doh

Exactly. I really think this eschatology of abandonment and despair is like a cancer that has gotten into Christian theology. It's deterministic. It makes it sound like God has the future all filmed, like a movie that's in the can. ... So now the film is just playing and we're stuck. :hehee Maybe Maclaren should read a few passages in the Bible...wait...he needs to read ALL of it. Then he will see what many christians know to believe is true and what is going to happen in the very near future. Even Maclaren is playing into the hands of God in spreading the great delusion.

Well, since God knows the end from the beginning why wouldn't he tell us a few things before they happen. What is wrong with that? Maybe God just wanted to let people know He has everything under control. It has never been God's intention of putting man in control. God is the only one with ultimate control over everything. He only allows certain things that will ultimately glorify God in the end. :thumb
