I was curious if anyone was going to install the Windows XP SP3 when
it comes out this year... I haven't really decided myself.

I'd rather keep XP running well then go to vista.

Well for me I suspect they have their snooping software included in SP3. I think it is called "Windows Genuine Advantage". It actually checks what software is on your machine to see if it is legitimate everytime you boot your computer. That turned me off, like my MS Office only needs to be checked once and that's it IMO.

Too big brother and draconian for me, so I am going to pass on their offer. I suppose Vista has it integrated into the operating system right from the start.

Genuine Advantage garbage comes in the box with XP. I guess the only way to escape it is to not use anything from MS or make sure everything is legit. I'm sure you could also delete the startup entry in msconfig.

I'll probably install it, even though probably the only thing in it that i'd be interested in using is WPA2. I plan on using XP for as long as possible, so i'll keep it 100% up to date. Plus i'm a bit of an update-junkie!

It's their way of making XP less desirable than Vista. Once you load XP-SP3, you'll be dying to go to vista http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/kgartin/FNOD2.gif

Actually I think it's the other way around. MS know that Vista is a mess and they probably can't patch it in the near future so they are continuing to upgrade XP. I know they were Beta testing SP1 for Vista in October for a release in Q1 2008. It ain't out yet...:rolleyes

Well, I think I kept refusing to install it (Windows Genuine Advantage) so it is not in my version of XP, I hope.:)

Then I downloaded XP-Antispy software to take control of what my operating system does on its own without asking me.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record...if you're actually concerned about this kind of thing maybe you should consider moving to an open source OS (ie: Linux)

I have considered it and I'm using linux right now. But it won't play age of empires:rant
I have a question for you, pacman, how do you stand the stinking network manager in PCLOS? I've been trying yo get knetworkmanager working for a while now but no luck.
